Just seen this in the farmers weekly letters. Now irrelevant of the actual ploughing/direct drilling argument, surely this attitude is pathetic?
I fell of my bike in 1979 so never ridden one again.
indeed, these days to hand theres lots of more expensive drills, straw rakes, shallow soil 'disturbers' low disturber subsoilers, slug pellets and ROUNDUP ............and that amino stuff :giggle:

your rite he shuld really give it another go :ROFLMAO:

And there will be more techniques and technologies that will come to the fore in the next hundred years. It just evolves.

It’s always Farmers and Agriculture that are blamed…. When the truth is farmers and agriculture have been directed by governments policy and need for ever cheaper food.. Farmers run businesses, they react ( slowly) to changing markets and pressure from those supposedly leading us.
Encourage smaller mixed farms, over time I suspect biodiversity will improve, and food will become more expensive…so it ain’t happening. They would rather import food, creating the same issues elsewhere while back slapping at the wonders of rewilding and carbon sequestration here.
Can’t have it both ways.

But you can sequester carbon whilst still farming! It’s a massive opportunity for us we are just shite at getting our side across.

I was reading an article today in the Farmers Guide about the emissions of CO2 from soil depending on cultivation methods.

It was in the order of 8mg of CO2 per hour per m2 for ploughed land versus Direct Drilling of 2 to 3 mg per hour.

After about 7 days the CO2 emissions were practically the same. Not really 100% clear what was going on because there was no distinction for land being consolidated and rolled just generic Catagorisations.

However.

There was no mention of the fact that surface Carbon per M2 will be buried with ploughing - whereas DD surface Carbon will remain. CO2 emissions for that surface Carbon will be FAR higher than the Carbon buried.

So I think there is a significant amount of Propaganda going on here. If land is ploughed say every 4 to 5 years I bet it out performs DD significantly.

I’ve seen that and it’s been doing the rounds for a few months now. Think it came from teagsec (sure there was a plough company sponsoring some of the articles!) I can find another hundred reports positive to the opposite agenda.

I don't think my point was in the article.

The buried Carbon from the surface will sequester whereas the surface Carbon MIGHT sequester a bit if worms take it.

Really from all these so called Science you rely on the "Scientist" being honest and professional .. unfortunately in my experience of humans at least 50% are not professional, honesty can be sold quite easily.

So, I've 5000 trees in my orchard, can someone tell me how I monetize the carbon sequestration from that... That's an honest question..

I’m not relying on it. It’s just something that is happening.

But surely exactly the same goes for the people saying what you want to hear? Come on you can do better than that. You are arguing against the validity of your own point also.

Then add on Boris s build build policy, it will join up the rest.
I Think this map should be used as weapon against all of this anti farming agenda. WE NEED TO STOP APOLOGISING AND GO INTO ATTACK MODE. What is causing more pollution in uk ,Development or producing the most important building block of life food.
Even when you are in the dark bits like mine, the area is being urbanised ,cleansed of native community. Classic example a neighbouring farm ,bought by a London man, converted all buildings with all waste being pumped to nearest brook. Whats reducing water quality in that brook not my farming, I am keeping that one back for now, always handy to have something to protect yourself with if the need arises,
