Thirsk have been dear today, but and it is a big but, the last thing I want as a live weight seller is deadweight cattle men turning up with extra cattle, for a week or 2 to see how they get on, there's a limit as to how many cattle liveweight buyers want. Seen it in Thirsk before somebody who sells deadweight brings 20 R grade cattle (usually the week after a flyer and overweight) and trade drops 10p everyone is pi$$ed off and deadweight man grumbles and moans about selling live, and goes back to selling dead.

Yes I get that to a point but surely people should be selecting some for it and more in still means more men go to a market and it does look like more are needed in the Marts up there doesn’t it ??? Tell me if I’m wrong

If they are not going dead they will have to go to market and bid !

There will always be those that see the grass as greener on the other side! Deadweight specs are the real worry, hence the dumping on the markets.

No understand what your saying, and i'm a firm believer in the liveweight and would love to see Thirsk and other marts getting 300-600 cattle every week like they used too, but the buyers just aren't there to take those numbers now, and supermarkets would rather have empty shelves or sell foreign that come to a live market and actually bid for cattle and compete with other buyers!!!
