You have to wonder how the working efficiency of these modern day private businesses, compares to the bad old days of the 'inefficient' nationalised businesses. Fact is most are private in name only, as they often rely heavily on regular tax payer handouts, with profits often siphoned away to foreign tax efficient lands..........

Basically the same as what they've been saying on the farming rules for water since they were introduced years ago: "the rules are the rules, but we won't be taking any enforcement action".

Is it therefore in the public interest to prosecute anyone if they won't prosecute untreated sewage just because a multi billion £ water company is finding it 'tricky' the get the chemical from A to B?

Weren’t they doing that already, something about letting up to 50% untreated sewage into watercourses at times of heavy rainfall? It has been discussed on here before, reportedly many thousands of incidents per year.
Strictly speaking, it is the Water Companies doing this...
