Phone SAC who run the mv scheme and they'll give you some rough figures.
£23 an ewe sounds ridiculous to just do a blood sample.

As above, lab fees of £3-5/ewe (x2, assuming no positives/inconclusives thrown up, requiring another test), plus vet time for the sampling, and vet’s fees for admin/postage. That’s on top of the SAC membership costs.
I’m pretty sure the vet also needs to do a visit to sign off the premises to say it’s biosecure as regards double fencing, etc too, if it’s for a new flock/holding.
If you don’t have the sheep sorted and labour on hand, then the blood testing could easily rack up plenty of cost at vet hourly rates, so it pays to get that side organised properly.
I could see total costs coming to £20+ per ewe if you cost everything, but certainly not ‘per test’.

For those that don't keep sheep, and there are many, Maedi-Visna is a nasty contagious disease of sheep caused by the visna-maedi virus from the genus Lentivirus and subfamily Orthoretrovirinae. It causes encephalitis and chronic pneumonia in sheep. It is visna when in the brain and maedi when in the lungs
How common is this disease?
Far more common than everyone thinks imo. You see a lot of very poor ewes in the culls that I would bet have it. Tell tale sign is dragging there back leg. I’m not an expert in any way but doesn’t it effect all soft Tissue, brain, muscles and udder?
