Bentham sucklers have been a hell of a trade, best cattle up to £1400, bulls up to £1200, plenty 6-7 month old £850-£1050.
A moderate show of young stores and stirks sold to a good trade for what was on offer, a lot of cattle really showing signs been weathered and cold. Best bullocks up to £1460.

One thing that strikes me looking at the suckled calf sales from all parts of the country is how numbers are dwindling year after year, sad job.
I see boris and his mrs want to cut beef and lamb consumption in the uk by 30% to meet carbon targets, the nations eating habits are ruining the planet is the take home msg and alternative proteins are the next big thing!🤦‍♂️

Only reason to keep them now is to make some rough muck/manure/ slurry nowadays especially if fert is gonna be unbuyable!

Surely with a nanosecond of thought most of the currently meat eating public will see this for the nonsense it is. The problem with meat is, it just tastes too good 😂

I think people have got beyond listening. Covid has woken up a few to the fact that they need to do what they want not what they are told

Another big day at Bakewell following closely on the heels of the High Peak Livestock Society’s sales of Suckled Calves and Hill Sheep.

A good number of producers tied up under the 6-day rules, but 663 cattle and 2,128 sheep were forward for the Monday market.

Not quite as many Store & Breeding Cattle on offer, but a respectable entry of 419 sold on another tremendous trade.

Steers reached £1,425, Heifers £1,370 and Feeding Bulls £1,005. Cows & Calves reached £1,390 and a 46 mnths Simmental Stock Bull £1,720.

Finished Cattle numbers were well down at 72 and prices very strong as a consequence. Top figures 285p and £2,026 and the average for the 21 heifers 237p.

Plenty of action in the OTM section with top figures 186p and £1,590 to average 132.3p.

Calf numbers holding steady at 51 with Bulls to £325 and Heifers £255.

Things were busy in the Sheep Department. There were 1,667 lambs forward with the best to 296p/kilo and £145.92 per head. The SQQ average for a somewhat mixed entry was 234.2p.

Another decent entry of 461 Cull Sheep with Ewes to £155 the average £77.61.

Bulls still a roaring trade, we topped the days trade at 276p and had another at 232p for our last 2 bulls!
