It’s a bit moist here too, 29mm overnight.
I think the doors are all well and truly shut on my job for a while now. Not as wet as the last two Octobers and as long as we don’t get 29 mm too often it’ll be fine.

47mm of rain overnight, last years wet spots now underwater again, some busted, some not. Hammering it down again in the dry East.
We always get a two incher in mid to late October. Seperates the season, and identifies the easy soil.

Not many @Scholsey but if it comes dry or frosty we can do some through the winter.
Occasionally I’ll be called to sample some ground if their OSR is failing. If it’s really low pH we can get on it if the ground isn’t too tender. It gives the plants we run on a bit of a headache but will pull a crop round , the benefit of the lime outweighing the damage caused.
But we haven’t had a decent winter at the job for 10 years. It’s all just wet and modgy (brilliant word from @Gadget !!) these days.

Last November we drilled on ploughed land with an MF30 following a power Harrow. Yielded a good average in the end and would have been even better without ear blight. It looked pretty shocking as heavy rain followed drilling and looked thin in early spring but came good in the end. We didn’t venture into the really heavy stuff and I’m glad we didn’t but light to medium land was well worth attempting.

It’s surprising what wheat will stand. Slugs can be as big a problem as the wet ground.

All planned winter drilling done though it’s only 85 acres and would be more if previous problems with OSR failure and wet winter hadn’t messed up the rotation. Opportunistic winter drilling after beet is starting to look dicey as we just can’t get the beet collected and the field cleared.

I haven't rolled anything since the middle of September apart from winter beans and 1 field of late wheat that I subsoiled after cultivation and hopefully that will help stop it dying of 'death by roller'
