Radio 2, Good Morning Sunday. Was quite enjoying it whilst doing some outside work, in the rain! .. until .. they interviewed 2 environmental 'experts' who laid ALL the blame for the climate change on burning fossil fuels and particularly consumption of meat and beef production in factory farms. How you can compare the huge beef lots to British farming practices shows a huge lack of knowledge and nobody denies that cows do fart but PLEASE BBC explain how the pollution levels were SO much lower during lockdown? All the farming carried on as normal. Nothing changed .. except .. people stopped traveling, jetting around the world etc. but that is NEVER talked about as a contributory factor is it. Boring, same old, same old I know but I get so fed up of hearing this one sided attack from environmentalists without some facts from other perspectives. Why don't we hear more from 'our' experts on popular media outlets, rather than just preaching to the converted in specialist publications / forums.

You really don't want to go around encouraging that. The NFU state that ag is responsible for 10% of UK GHG emissions. Every time they appear in the media they apologize for this, and commit you as a farmer to having to try harder. The less media exposure the NFU get, the better.

Hang on a sec! If we produce 10 per cent, who produces the other 90 per cent?!

Tesco (et al).
We don't produce 10%. If we got rid of UK ag then GHG emissions would rise. If we got rid of livestock emissions would rise.
It's a message that the NFU is utterly incapable of delivering. Because the primary role of the NFU is to take the blame on behalf of the rest of the food chain. The NFU don't work for you. They work for the global corporations who screw you on a daily basis.

No noticeable change to measured CO2 during the last 2 years.

And no noticeable change due to the 2008 global recession.

Man made CO2 emissions are tiny compared to natural emissions and only account for 3% of the yearly increase.

Going Net Zero won't stop measured CO2 from rising.

The None Farming Union is just looking after it’s none farming members who live in village life of summer festivities and craft shows. 4/5 of its members don’t farm so why would they try and help it’s farmer members. We don’t exist.

When you have part time union leaders with little or no authority you'd just as well admit defeat, the NFU ceased to be of any real consequence when awards started being handed out to it's leaders a long time ago! Starting with Sir Henry Plumb

I heard that this morning they were claiming agriculture accounted for 40% of it and poor animal welfare from factory farms. I do wonder what they term as a factory farm?

Did sat next to a vegan at a wedding the other week and they just kept rattling on. Said i could grow crops on flood plains and no need for animals. Apparently postachio nuts were the protein of choice. They didn't actually think if this country could grow their food and where it did actually come from.

I really do think there needs to be a better more long term approach to climate change. Before billions of pounds get wasted on really crap projects with no real benefit to all but a few.

Listened to Batters being patronised by a smug Tory MP on the news the other day, telling her she should be more optimistic about the future, could tell she didn’t like that and the DM article this morning she is finally starting to turn on this government and fight our corner. Much more of this and I will have to renew my subs.
She said 55000 farm businesses were represented by the NFU.

I too heard the first interviewee ... whilst pushing cow sh!t about.

To be fair to the man, he is a Hindu so he would be coming at it from a vegetarian angle in the first instance. And no doubt he was probably quoting global figures when stating that the food industry is “responsible” for 30-40% of emissions
Some of the other stuff he said - such as walking half a mile rather than jump in a car - made sense.
Missed the second interviewee as I was busy AI-ing cows

But late though isn't it? She's encouraged most of this anti farming rubbish.
