We encounter quite a few vegans, as we sell everything direct to the public. I have stopped telling them what UK farmers can and can't grow, but just ask them what they think they're going to live on when the real polluters, air freight and commercial shipping become as restricted as they ought to be!

How much would their food cost , if the fuel to get it here , was the £1.49.9/litre I paid for my last tank full ?

Where was the CLA, NBA, NSA,TFA,RABDF........the program had an agenda, you really don't expect the BBC to have balance do you?

Even when given our representatives are given a chance to respond its edited to suit the agenda.

How many people were actually listening at 6.30 on a Sunday morning?

About as many who have read this thread I expect

Tesco (et al).
We don't produce 10%. If we got rid of UK ag then GHG emissions would rise. If we got rid of livestock emissions would rise.
It's a message that the NFU is utterly incapable of delivering. Because the primary role of the NFU is to take the blame on behalf of the rest of the food chain. The NFU don't work for you. They work for the global corporations who screw you on a daily basis.

But the NFU don’t take direct accountability for it. They tell themselves they are being responsible, and then immediately pass that responsibility down to their farmer members.

Just like EasyJet telling their customers they are being responsible by offsetting carbon. Or a car dealer providing insurance backed used car warranty.

It’s always rolls downhill until it reaches the person that cannot pass it on any further.

The None Farming Union is just looking after it’s none farming members who live in village life of summer festivities and craft shows. 4/5 of its members don’t farm so why would they try and help it’s farmer members. We don’t exist.

Is your 4/5 statistic really true, or another made up figure, as commonly used by the most vocal on here?

I find it hard to believe that they have that many ‘countryside’ members.

Radio 2, Good Morning Sunday. Was quite enjoying it whilst doing some outside work, in the rain! .. until .. they interviewed 2 environmental 'experts' who laid ALL the blame for the climate change on burning fossil fuels and particularly consumption of meat and beef production in factory farms. How you can compare the huge beef lots to British farming practices shows a huge lack of knowledge and nobody denies that cows do fart but PLEASE BBC explain how the pollution levels were SO much lower during lockdown? All the farming carried on as normal. Nothing changed .. except .. people stopped traveling, jetting around the world etc. but that is NEVER talked about as a contributory factor is it. Boring, same old, same old I know but I get so fed up of hearing this one sided attack from environmentalists without some facts from other perspectives. Why don't we hear more from 'our' experts on popular media outlets, rather than just preaching to the converted in specialist publications / forums.

Out of interest, how does the environmental impact of those ‘huge beef lots’ compare to the same number of cattle finished on high concentrate rations in a thousand scattered sheds in the UK?
I’d not be surprised if the feed lots had a similar, or even lower, carbon footprint. It’s just condensed into a smaller area.

Listened to Batters being patronised by a smug Tory MP on the news the other day, telling her she should be more optimistic about the future, could tell she didn’t like that and the DM article this morning she is finally starting to turn on this government and fight our corner. Much more of this and I will have to renew my subs.
She said 55000 farm businesses were represented by the NFU.
54999 now....

I will renew my Membership, when and if I see some positive action from the dear old NFU.....

The NFU represent us. And before anyone starts, yes that's all of us whether or not we pay subs, because they use the strapline 'the voice of British farming'. Not 'the voice of our farmer members'.

The NFU, therefore, are us. They aren't like an airline taking money off a customer.

Take Bob Crow, God rest his soul. Would he have gone on the radio and telly taking the blame for London's transport congestion and pollution ? Damn right he wouldn't, he would have laid the blame where it really lay, and he would have made sure his drivers got well paid for being the heroes.

If our elected representatives aren't up to the job - and why should they be, they are farmers not media people - then the NFU should pay top dollar for some professionals. I have written before about Jane Bickerstaff.

UK Media is currently saying that the British public may struggle to get what they need for a Christmas dinner from supermarkets due to EU border disruptions.
This is bulls**t!
💩
The whole point of a Christmas dinner is that it contains seasonal British food! British farmers can supply you with everything you need for one!
🇬🇧

Some supermarkets may struggle because they reject 4.5 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables every year just because they do not look pretty in their packaging. Just like these carrots that will be fed to our cows for that reason.
And to add insult to injury Tesco is currently selling British vegetables for 19p a pack. I doubt it will be them taking the hit for these stupidly low prices but the actual grower!
My advice this Christmas is to buy British and to buy local if you can!
