Anyone grazed some very forward osr with sheep before?
Haven’t done yet but will be doing this year. There is a field locally with some sheep on. Must be 50ac and about 100 sheep with free roam, looks pointless to me doing it like that. I’ll be block grazing mine, will have to be on the ball to make sure they don’t poach itAnyone grazed some very forward osr with sheep before?
actually best way if its a crop for harvesting , light touch will only take off excess crop ,fungus and weeds , block grazed like fodder rape will encourage poaching and overgrazing around trees etc ,Haven’t done yet but will be doing this year. Nice if it works. Being able to shift that amount of sheep at quick notice must surely have a hassle cost that the field owner will pay for ?I had someone rang yesterday wanting me to graze 100 acres off, he wants it done fast so today I have fenced the lot (5 fields) and tomorrow are sending him 520 ewe lambs. I will be a nice experiment.
I’m not paying for it, but do get 250 acres of (poor) cover crops to graze after for nothing. I’m grazing one end of the farm and someone else is at the other, the middle is being topped to see who or what does a better job. The manager seems to think the flea beetle are in the leaf and the sheep will eat them out.Nice if it works. And not so easy when he rings up in the evening to tell you "get them off tomorrow" ☹Nice if it works. Being able to shift that amount of sheep at quick notice must surely have a hassle cost that the field owner will pay for ?
Yeah that’s the problem, but i can run them onto his grass or cover crops. You always seem to get the people who want 1000’s for sheep then the next day want none! And not so easy when he rings up in the evening to tell you "get them off tomorrow" ☹
It’s waist high… there is plenty of excess to go atactually best way if its a crop for harvesting , light touch will only take off excess crop ,fungus and weeds , block grazed like fodder rape will encourage poaching and overgrazing around trees etc ,
