I was away on a trip last week with a few smaller fert merchants. One or two were saying they were not going to bother this time as laying out nearly 20k for each wagon wasnt worth the bother for what they were making off it. (Which was considerably less than i would have imagined)

If they knew what the fertiliser market was going to do, they'd be making a lot more money in the commodities market. I think its dangerous to start advising on when to buy when one has no idea what they are talking about. The limit of their involvement should be "ideally you'll need this many tonnes for your crop"
I’m not saying agronomists should be saying “buy now” or “leave it till next year” I’m saying they should be going to their customers and saying, this is your nutrient management plan, this is what you require, this is what you had last year and the cost and this is what it could potentially cost this year and how it would affect your gross margin. Ultimately the customers have to make the decisions and we just provide them with some information. Any agronomist who leaves these conversations till next year when the cost could be anywhere aren’t doing their jobs correctly.

Also see China government have issued a demand to its coal miners to increase coal production aggressively to keep up with demand, considering a lot of Chinese urea plants are coal powered, we could see production begin to catch up into next year, not soon enough for this crops campaign, but maybe for the following.

Do agronomists do nutrient management plans . Ive never asked for one as I’m quite capable of deciding how much fertiliser to use myself . Do they charge for this service ?

I’ve seen the one done for my uncle by his agronomist (we do the spreading); it’s always based on unrealistic yields and therefore silly high rates. Guess who he buys the fertiliser from? 🙄

Quoted £650 Pulan, £720 Urea 16 Tns Nov delivery and payment
Bought Granular Urea , all for grassland, 16 tn will get me just past first cut.

Mad I know but at least its done. Just hope it turns up.
