Is it ok/legal to cancel orders whether it’s delivered or not…….I think not. If that’s the case fert merchants will be drawing lines through the contracts for product bought at lower than todays price. I’m afraid an order is an order.
Totally agree an order is an order,as I said I have bought fert at a lot more than I paid last year,I made the decision so will happily pay it even if it is half the price then, not due for delivery until spring though,if it arrives all good,if not I will report back on here!

Quotes from yesterday.

Extran 33.5%N £690
Axan 27N 9 SO3 £625 / Origin equivalent £620
Mop £530
Urea £735
23-0-13+7so3 Blend £595

Does anyone know of anyone actually buying at these prices?

No real talk of fert with anyone I've been chatting to and no interest until spring. And thats at prices nowhere near those, with axan at 440, and no one buying it.

The traders I spoke to are busy. Whether that is just chat and quotes or orders being placed I don’t know. I did gather that there are customers who are still sitting it out with nothing bought. I bought over half my needs back in early summer, but need to finalise the balance at some point. Unless I ask, I don’t know the true prices available to keep in touch with where the markets at.

Would be interesting to know exactly how much is already bought and on farm for next year, how much is bought and as yet to be delivered, how much is still sitting in storage unsold and how many farms are sitting with full/half/zero cover. I suppose the trade would love to know this just the same as end users like to know how much grain we have on farm…..

I never normally order before December, mainly because I haven’t had space to store the stuff and like it delivered in February or even March, once straw sheds have room and just before we actually need to use it in April. It’s always worked in the past but I suppose this is a form of just in time delivery which is failing in many other sectors over the last year.

Load of urea in the shed.
Load of piamon due Jan.
30t 22n liquid in tank.
Digestate booked for all the farm.
The liquid is old stock. Urea and piamon weren't cheap but certainly weren't £700/t. Digestate "price" subject to discussion but I've enough bagged for the year anyway if they want to mess about.

Hmm. Everyone in this area is wall to wall wheat. I'm not an expert on stock but I doubt there will be big reductions - how much abbatoir capacity is there for extra animals?
Just had a drive around locally and the wheat looks fantastic , even on the heavy wet ground that often looks mauled in . So I can’t see demand to fertilise good crops being much less. Only thing is there is plenty of digestate, cow slurry etc locally. Normally a lot of this is free to good home if you pay for the spreading, but whether they will see a market for it, remains to be seen .

Trouble is, if they "see a market for it" in one year, due to the value of npk, then I might "see a market" for the disposal of the less desirable fractions; to cross my land to get to others for spreading etc. I'm hopeful sense will prevail, but happy I have adequate purchased just in case.

Wise thinking. It's prudent never to put yourself in a position where you might become dependent on others.

Similar here, except liquid is this year's and wasn't cheap.

Also see China government have issued a demand to its coal miners to increase coal production aggressively to keep up with demand, considering a lot of Chinese urea plants are coal powered, we could see production begin to catch up into next year, not soon enough for this crops campaign, but maybe for the following.

Bloody china coming out on top again 🙈
