The osr volunteers were knee high at drilling time.

Still can't quite believe it.

Wasn't brave enough not to pellet though.
Got mega populations here in every scenario.
Wet summer and Romney marsh equals lots of slugs
Always works here no slug pellets ever used but watch it carefully when the rape has died
Around here usually the wheat is 2 leaf or bigger and the temperature is lower

imho the notill ground has less slugs after a few years because the ground is firmer
there are also more insects beetles and worms which attract flocks of crows and pigeons which then eat the slugs
but most of all the slugs are random feeder so if there is plenty of other food they find that first

fields after beans are a higher risk due to very little vegetation at drilling

I’ve just ordered more wheat seed to patch up a field with slug damage after peas. No bare parts of the field but pretty thin all over.

My last field drilled about 3 weeks ago into AB9.
Bit of an experiment.
HTF does it do such a good job?

This what it looked like 12th Oct, the day I drilled it.

My main concern in something like that would be the amount of weeds and how to control them. I keep getting told you will have to plough that to control xyz. How do you keep on top of it through the season?
I direct drilled ab9 into ab9 stubble before the deadline and it was overgrown by weeds (incredibly dry at drilling) did it again in July and the ab9 hasn’t looked back… very dependant on conditions what the weeds (and crop) will do

In fairness I would think that the jury's still out on that for a bit.

Nothing ventured Nothing gained though in my book.
It had 4 l/ha Roundup Flex pre drilling and 2l Crystal and 0.2l DFF /has pre-em. So hopefully it’ll be ok.
TBH, I was gobsmacked that it has come up so well in such a short time. The photos don’t seem to do it justice.

Yes, jury is out. But I’m optimistic it’ll be ok.
Will keep taking photos every few weeks and posting them.

The worst bit of wheat I have on the farm is a ploughed and combi-drilled bit. Was out yesterday giving it a hell of a dose of slug pellets. Yet it went into pretty good conditions at the time.

Is it fairly standard that there needs to be the seed flap fitted. To stop the seeds flicking out . I run a big disc and when I put the pedal to the metal over 9kph seeds start ending up on top.

I rarely Go above 9 k with. caddy
small seeds can get away with faster although It is a bit light when the hopper is light
have added a couple of tonne before which helps the closing wheels

the latest drill will be better and a narrower drill has higher weight per coulter

I’ve been patching up a slug damaged field today, only a couple of days after serious rainfall. I’m seriously impressed with how the GD has travelled. It is quite hard to see where I have been.

Embarrassing one today, neighbour asked me to do a trial 8ha with the GD, rocked up and put 500kg of seed in, was being cautious as its ex pea land, short disced a couple of times and already dead from Glypho, so pleased I did. Went to calibrate and it was all over the place, first bucket heavy, next bucket really light, 10 buckets later no different, 2 hours later, including a couple of phone calls to Mike @ Weavings and gave up and came home. Any suggestions where to start in the morning ? Planning on dropping the seed out, but it’s seems to be metering ok, but thought it worth it to be sure.

Bit of plastic dropped into the hopper? drilled half my cover crops with a cable tie in it that had fallen in

Well, that's hardly dd, is it?
Thought pea land was as good as it gets...
Obviously meant in the nicest possible way, because I am genuinely interested :) .

If it’s the accord meter there’s a slip clutch on them my weaving big discs got it on and I’ve had that slipping at times this yr which caused some head scratching.

The Artemis system on my GD does that when its max forward speed gets around 15 km/h. There seems to be a step in the logic where suddenly the meter turns noticeably a lot faster during calibration and the efficiency of the metering unit drops. This then speed up caused the max speed to drop enough for the meter motor to slow down for the next calibration.

Now I always make sure the meter is screwed in more than necessary before calibrating, do one calibration to get it roughly calibrated for the seed with a very low max speed. Then wind open the meter as of calibrating a mechanical driven accord meter to get the max speed around 11 km/h and then calibrate the drill again.

It doesn't seem right, but that avoids the issue when I never drill faster than 8 km/h with it.

That’s what’s now confusing me, Mike said open it up, eventually I had it full open and still did the same thing.
The other confusing think is it was happy at 200kg/ha was when I went to 190kg/ha it’s started to play up 🤷🏼‍♂️
Drill at 7kph here, to much disturbance if faster.
