Ssangyong musso

I have looked at the Musso pickup again recently, and again, walked away as I just do not like the lack of real ground clearance. Even the Dealer said that they are not suitable for anything more than a flat surface.

Great tow truck mind... Be nice to have a swan neck hitch on the auto I felt!!

I'm not the most knowledgeable person for off road use, however when this generation of Musso was launched in 2018, we had 3 professional off road drivers driving groups of Mussos with 4 folks through rivers, mud and up and down scary inclines demonstrating the hill descent modes. It was all very impressive and the truck handled the terrain identically to the Defender support car.

After I spoke to one of the drivers who was a Landy club member etc, and he said it impressed him and he had already recommended to his brother, seemed like a genuine opinion.

Perhaps the dealer you spoke to wasn't around for the launch, or perhaps hasn't taken one off road yet?

The Aussies are also quite keen on the off road performance:

I was basing my opinion, and it was no more than that, on a look underneath the front end and felt that the truck as it was on the forecourt, had bugger all ground clearance down the middle, and would bottom out or worse, on rutted tracks. While I have grave reservation about the Ford Ranger, ground clearance is not one, and even that will bottom out at times. ;)

As a tow truck, I thought it would be great...

Totally accept what you're saying, was more the dealer saying it was effectively an on road truck that sparked me into action.

It's worth mentioning that most of my off road customers are on General grabber AT3's with a bump in profile, which gives a ground clearance similar to the rest of the competition. The facelift trucks are now coming with Pirelli scorpions which are actually a really nice all terrain tire.

I’ve found the Pirelli Scorpion tyres last about the same time as an F1 tyre!

Pirrelli scorpions bring back memories of a Nissan terrano with its limitied slip back diff and various local roundabouts on wet days! 😂 Those tyres did nearly 20k
It was over 20yr ago tho, so tyres be quite different.
Still run scorpions on a vw tiguain, last set did about 35k, no towing or drifting roundabouts for that matter!

I gave myself a heart attack the day after I had put a "magic box" on my Terrano and took it for a spin, effing mental, summed it up.

I called the maker of said box and explained it was a "little too lively" now on the back end. A knowing chuckle was heard. " You need to find the little screw on the potentiometer. Then screw it clockwise to the stop then back it... 1/2 turn (or something....) and it will give you around 125BHP as wanted."

"And what was the HP likely to be on the incorrect setting?", I asked... "Oh around 180-200", he thought. If you leave it like that, it's a question which will go first, the engine or transmission. Personally, I felt it was me most at risk, straight off the road at the first sign of rain!!

But what a pleasure those miles must have been....

Got to admit, I do like BF Goodrich's finest on my trucks. Herself tends to get.... irritable if "her" truck gets stuck, I have found....
They were Pirelli Scorpion P Zeros ! £185 each!! on a 3.0 Touareg, Every corner was possible @80mph+:)
but at 10p a mile just for tyres was a bit too much

Top job lad. That clears up any potential rumours about them bein on thier knees
They were on their knees. Fact. They no longer are. Fact.
The future? Who knows? They are probably now as safe as any other.

There are even dire predictions for the giant Toyota's future, but I wouldn't think that such a massively cash-rich company could get into difficulty within at least two decades but their lack of investment in electric cars and their lobbying against them has fuelled the predictions of looming issues.

I changed from Continentals on 20" rims to narrower Pirelli Scorpions on 19" rims on my Volvo XC 90 and although I never wore either set out, I felt that the Pirelli was lasting about twice better.
I have a set of Volvo 20" wheels in absolute immaculate condition with Contisilent tyres at between 40 and 50% tread in my shed, for sale for a goos price if anyone is interested. Might be good to change the Conti's [after wearing them out] for a set of Winter tyres ? Yours for £100 each, buyer collects.

I run scorpions on my XC 70 and they can do high mileage if you don’t try to drive like it’s a car of half it’s actual weight. First set did 35k on the front and 55k on the rear of not more
