Animals mistaken for pests in crops

That was lovely to read, we should all know this stuff but we have our heads buried in paperwork.

On a larger scale, are moles a beneficial or a pest?
Many thanks.
I think moles would depend on the type of soil. I guess they could act as fabulous natural ploughs in the right context. :) Plus they might be eating soil based pests, like leatherjackets and wireworms, or they could be eating friendly earthworms.

I know greenskeepers are unusual in that they consider earthworms to be a pest. They appreciate the work they do for soil health but would rather not have them in the soil beneath the greens because of the wormcasts on the surface. Plus they attract badgers that dig up the greens hunting for them!
