I’m rather busy autumn calving just now but I’ll try get down as a bull I’d like to see how he has improved since may and I’d say maybe the best Iv ever seen there! I’ll be getting the flask filled up with him that’s for sure!!
Might see you there, I'm going up! Be good to see the bull in the flesh as I've only seen pictures, and maybe order a few straws

Yes would be good to meet you. I’d maybe get to meet a few other blonde breeders too I’m looking for 5/6 pedigree heifers to start a little herd and a stock bull or two come time. Would you try him on your pedigree stock?
The bull has definitely got a good home I’d say Thor is very good for the breed and will help it some what hopefully get a good few new breeders as I think it’s a breed that is struggling some what.

What like was the Agri Expo.

What like was the Agri Expo? Did Plato make an appearance?
What price is a straw of Plato? Might consider getting some for the A.I. tank also.
Yeah really good show.
No, Plato wasn't there unfortunately. They'd turned him out with cows and he had lost a bit of condition so they didn't want to bring him unless he was 100% there.
Spoke to Thor, semen is £20 per straw plus £30 royalty when registering progeny. Semen is stored at Scawfell Genetics.

Was a fantastic pen of Blonde bull calves on their rough Sim-Luing mothers, on the stand

I didn’t end up getting there unfortunately had 7 calves hit the ground.
Was the show good?
was that the only blondes on show? Or was there some taking part in the show its self?

That’s a shame he didn’t get there but it’s understandable bulls always loose condition.
Semen is reasonably priced I’d be trying on sim X lim cows give the calves more shape then hopefully get myself some pedigrees!!

They look like cracking calves out of plain cows I’d be chuft with them in my field! Who sired them?

Yeah, was a good show. Pretty sure the only Blondes on show were on the stand. Thor sent a Jan heifer calf for the stand instead of Plato, but apart from that I didn't see any Blonde crosses amongst the show cattle which was a shame.
For me the £30 royalty is putting me off using him a bit tbh, as I'd be using him on pedigrees.
They were really nice calves. They were from the Rogerson family near Appleby. I think they were by a Hallfield bull, but I can't remember which one.

That’s a shame there wasn’t more on show! It could only be good for the breed if more people would show them off.
That’s still not bad though that would be £50 a straw which is still reasonable Iv paid more to put in a cross bred and he might breed you a very good bull you could sell for 5 figures!
Do your crossbred calf’s turn out like that out of plainer cows?

Good photos Stuart. Shame we missed you, would have been nice to catch up. Wanted to see Plato- what was the reason he wasn't there? Did you have a good day? Jess

Yeah, real shame there weren't any Blondes amongst the show cattle. Most years there'd be one or two, but they do seem out of favour for some reason with the show men. Unless they're all put down as Lim on the passport 😉🙄
True, he could do. We just don't like royalties on bulls full stop, it's penalising your Pedigree breeders for no reason imo.
Occasionally we get calves similar, but the majority of our crossbred cows are first cross dairy so their calves naturally aren't quite the same. We have a really good bull calf out of a LimX Shorthorn this time. I'll have to get some photos when he comes in.

Thanks Jess. Yeah, shame I didn't see you to speak to.
When I spoke to Thor he said he'd been out with cows so had lost condition so he didn't want to bring him if he wasn't looking 100%.
Yeah was a very good day, we enjoy going up. Did you?

What are your pedigrees like? Are most plain or they good to look at from a young age? Are your bulls better than your heifers or a mixed bunch? I’m guessing you have a high killing policy, anything not fit for breeding goes to the killing house?
just interested to know Iv A.I’d 22 to Hallfield Fanfare and most are limXblue a few simXluing or salers quite a mixed bunch just to see what the blonde clicks best with.
Iv just bought in 35 simXluing heifers and was going to A.I most of them to a bull Iv found Hutton Oli on bovine genetics what’s your thoughts on him? Iv some Lochhead Tyson and Bradbury Evan to go into them also.

Hiya, I've never been before so was good for me- Little lad was a bit bored so he caused chaos and nearly got himself lost a few times! But was a nice day, got to speak to some breeders up there as well which was good. Is Plato coming out for another visit or have we got any recent photos?

Glacon and hashtag look nice.. the problem is, you can only see side photos. would like to see photos from the back and look at width before deciding on that one. There s blonde forum on facebook with opinions of different bulls and calving etc. Can get you info if you are on there.

I've used hashtag, first calves are due end of January. Did look at Glacon but he's more terminal sire whereas I was looking for better maternal traits.
New French catalogue (in English) is here: https://fr.calameo.com/read/001046468829c32593c9e
Quite a few of the bulls have videos of them on YouTube: https://youtube.com/channel/UCJZKuf_iczqPTU6v0Gu1Hlw
Did you get cows in calf first time? we bought some french seaman and cows didn't hold to it- spent a bloody fortune! Have you done a AI course yourself?

Lochhead Tyson don't think you can get him anymore he's good for heifers, might be a bit worried about your limx blues to fanfare though. You'll need to keep a good eye on them I would think. Don't know about the other bulls you've mentioned there.
If your looking at getting some french stuff, Faust might be worth considering. I'm waiting to hear what price a straw he is before ordering some up. Hashtag is fine. I'm a bit like whitepeak and looking for a few more material traits.

Do my own AI. Did 2 heifers last year to Hashtag, one heifer I did a repeat on but held fine then. Did that same 2 again this year to Hashtag when they came to their first heat after calving, and both held first time.
At times AI is pretty frustrating though.

I agree with you on that one I can’t see why they don’t put more photos up. I don’t do Facebook but I can ask my friend to show me what’s it called?
Have you done or do much A.I work yourself?
