Powering the process itself isn't the problem if you have access to a lot of hydro. The problem is that you need large quantities of natural gas as feedstock, the price of which has absolutely rocketed.

I thought gas just powered the process. Nitrogen & Hydrogen are in the air just need the power from the gas or hydro, Harber Shruber process????

And that hydrogen fraction of natural gas is going to become ever more valuable as fuel to replace diesel power.
Interesting times.
The perfect storm. Unaffordable input prices, shortage of labour, low prices for produce, farm support removed unless of course you want to produce very little. Oh, and let's not forget the increase in compliance that we all enjoy so much. Triple digit food inflation.

One of our agents was saying something similar to this for years. He mentioned three things which would all come together and all were contradicting each other. Environmental constraints, food shortage and government policies.

And it's not just Government, on farming today yesterday they had farming union reps from England, Scotland and NI, all giving totally conflicting and muddled messages re farming and the environment, only real conclusion I reached was move to NI.

We have been regulated out of existence.

The fertiliser manufacturers are worried. The price goes up and people will use less and probably find their yields won’t go down especially not in the first year. So then people will start to think about whether they’ve been using more than neccesary.
