I’m hearing a lot of milling wheat is being rejected at flour mills for ergot. But the feed side of the mill can still take it. aren’t we lucky! The farmer loses £50 per tonne premium but thankfully he|she doesn’t get a redirection charge.

For low levels Load with an auger or out of a dryer Shute
the ergot ends up at the side of the truck where it is not found by the sampler
loading by bucket leaves the ergot mixed evenly

While I appreciate your guile when I crack open a 1 kg bag of Alpen to top up our cereal tupperwares I do think to myself has a wily old Yellow Belly managed to slip some ergot or mouse droppings into my breakfast cereal. Do you ever ponder when eating that nice Muffin or Artisan bread?

i prefer shredded wheat 100% british wheat

with the uk climate it is unlikely that any wheat has zero ergot
some varieties have a lot more than others
hard wheats are often more suceptable than soft wheats rialto was particulaly bad
and spring wheats are on another level

the answer is a colour sorter or buy wheat from the hotter growing countries

Uk prices just following world prices

every importing country is now concerned that some exporting countries do not have enough to keep exporting

the uk has till rescently been a net exporter
we have exported to Australia east coast when they had a drought and the USA east cost

the uk started this season with very little stock especially on farm every farm store was empty
