Meeting with AHDB about cereals assurance: What do you want us to say?

On Friday 19th, a group of farmers from TFF are meeting AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds to discuss market access for our grain.

If you want us to raise any issues, please let us know in this thread, so we can take those points to AHDB.

We are of the opinion that our concerns have not been voiced by our industry representatives, and so we are representing ourselves.

We feel that AHDB's £250k annual payment and other assiciations with Red Tractor has contributed to the compromising of market access for levy payers who are not RT/SQC assured.

We now want AHDB to redress this situation, and develop market access for levy payers which increases our competitiveness versus imports, being mindful that imports do not have any requirement to be farm level assured to access many of our UK markets.

We are aware that NFU are closely associated with RT. We are aware that AHDB are closely asociated with RT. We are aware that AIC are closely associated with SQC. We have reservations about these associations.

We believe the fact that RT is the base standard for many grain markets reduces the ability for RT grain to achieve a price premium, yet causes non-assured grain to trade at a price penalty to imports. We feel that changing this structure can give UK producers better and lower cost market access, with the ability to add value to our grain.

Please add any comments you wish to be discussed and taken to our levy board.

Get them to explain how being part owners of the dead tractor scheme and giving £5m of levy payers' money to red tractor over 20 years is good use of that levy payers money.

Ask them to explain how allowing AIC rules, insisting on farm assured uk grain but buying imports without any farm assurance, is consistent with their claims to improve markets and market access for uk growers.

Gatekeeper access to UK grain sales, or vote on the abolition of adhb.

Liquidate assets and put it all in farming suicide prevention as that's what these red tape / clipboard jokers drive us to.
If imports are accepted via gatekeeper style access, then I can't see any reason why UK grain should be any different.

It's within the AHDB remit/legislation to facilitate creation of standards. They're even allowes to set-up separate companies to do this.

One thing that you need to consider is that the trade pay a (small) AHDB levy to Cereals and Oilseeds as well. Therefore they also have to represent the views and needs of those organisations as well. Im not making excuses for them just making sure that you are aware of the situation before the meeting. I wish you luck.
Do you know exactly who you are meeting?
Martin Grantley-Smith?
Paul Temple?
Any other board members?

Always good to know who you are batting against and where they are coming from ;)

Thanks, yes, think the trade pay £0.05/t, so as you say AHDB don't just work for farmers. They have to consider everyone.

Personally for me the main points are that AHDB,AIC,RT, NFU ect have all become to hand in glove with each other and it needs to stop.

If I could have one outcome from all this it would be to have a simple self declaration on grain passports which states our goods are equal to and/or exceed imports. This is a simple scheme that AHDB could sort and save there own skins. RT could still continue for any premium markets provided there was a true premium for the good but the vast majority of grain could be traded with the simple tick box declaration.

If the AHDB could do this then I would let them stay but at the moment my vote is a firm NO.

All these quangos and organisations only exist because farmers are unable to stand with one voice.

come on let’s unite and get rid of all the ludicrous crap.
There's only one way to stop this gravy train , all out , cancel all d/d to the lot ,

This will hit their bank within 24 hours , we haven't actually quit but the future payments with these organisations will disappear over night

This not so much applicable to ADHB , but it is to RT and the NFU
