Beef / Lamb & Pig Price Tracker

Yes just got caught with some store cattle and hoggs around the time of the first lockdown
They were often adrift one week hoggs were only averaging less than 1.50 I think I av 1.47 that week and a neighbour rang up wanting me to complain he only av 1.20 I felt a lot better after he’d been on the phone, wasn’t sure what moaning was going to achieve. It wasn’t just the lockdown to be fair too many hoggs had been stacked up for one of the festivals and there was a lot of uncertainty around then.
Was this late March? I took a trailer load of empty ewes to St Boswells that Monday. Trailers stacked up nothing moving. The drivers said there might not even be a sale as buyers had no orders. A lot of standing about head scratching. I got hold of JC but he spoke in riddles (standard!). Overheard young auctioneer saying he would be 'raffling' the ewes. I ended up taking mine home. Hogg trade well back, ewes were ok and I should have sold them but everything pointed the other way 🤷

Ha well in around then I had stuck my neck out for a fair lot of sheep I had bought kind of right money so just took it on the chin really
The ones I sold broke even. Just… it was the way I found out that the buyer was paying significantly more elsewhere than what my auctioneer had arranged. Fortnight later was back making good money.
I’d hate too be an auctioneer… especially one who has too deal with me! 😂

Seen a few ‘farmers’ moaning lamb is too dear at £3 live on social media
Think they need a calculator in my view
Be same ones that would moan like feck if they went back to £60 a piece!! Like you say, they need to do some truthful calculations on what it costs just to stand still an that’s without dare I say it….paying yourself a wage!! Fecking jokers

Walked out of the mart earlier this year with a man who always has a complaint about his prices, he had hit one of the later store sales this year and made the most he ever had, I was wondering what the moan would be...... “these buyers are crazy spending that money on lambs!” 😂🤣

These buyers could well double their money on these lambs! Some folk aren’t happy without a complaint.

Worked with another man once that would barely speak all day.....unless you had a right moan about something, then you could barely get away from him 😂

TA few years ago some "trendy" farmers on social media were saying lamb was too expensive and we needed to lower our costs ! Claimed it was losing market share against other meats if it was too expensive.
I said it was supply and demand, if it was too expensive people wouldn't buy it and the price would fall.... Well the price has gone up a lot since then!! And presumably people are still eating it..... 😄

People pay £13 quid for twenty fags when ten years they were probably £6.50 a pack roughly so they have doubled and people still buy them so moaning about the price of food that’s been produced to cheaply by stupid people me included for too long is the reason we HAVE TO BE PAID ALOT MORE ! Who the hell wants to work for nothing whether ur a beef farmer sheep farmer dairy farmer or just work for someone the thing is those days are gone finished ! Food is going to be dearer peiole are going to be paid more overheads will be more it’s the new normal , but the big question is WHY should everyone work for peanuts so Tarquin and family can go to the Caribbean and have two new BMWs on the drive ? No such thing as too much for products now with the way expenses have gone ! Think about it 10 years ago can of coke 40p now it’s like 90p bag of crisps 40p now they are like 90p the rest has gone up time for milk meat etc to all go up a gear als no one will do it !
