To mask up or not?

With parts of Devon & Cornwall currently having the highest cases of Covid in the Country ( according to the BBC news) what does everyone think on whether or not mask wearing should continue to be encouraged? With nearly all our local shops / businesses still asking for people to wear masks before entering, I am pretty amazed that none of our local agricultural stores are stocking masks any more and apparently have no intention to stock them again, either disposable or reusable. In fact, I think I would have to go online to find any.

Only places in the SW that have high rates of covid are the schools and Hospitals.

Very few in the wider population have covid and even the ones that do most of them have either caught it from their school kids or when attending the local hospital.

Hardly a shop or business around here is asking people to wear a mask ( and wearing a mask is pointless anyway and as is being shown in Wales and Scotland for example where despite making people wear masks all summer they still have very high covid rates )

Of course if you feel safer wearing a mask then wear one but do not demand everyone else does so as well.

The UK's top three coronavirus hotspots have been revealed in new government figures.

Torridge, in Devon, is currently suffering the highest rate of new cases in the country, followed by Northern Ireland's Mid Ulster and the Causeway Coast and Glens.

It comes amid surging infections in the UK, with 46,807 recorded on Thursday - the highest daily figure for a month.

Earlier this week Boris Johnson said there was 'nothing in the data' to suggest the need for future restrictions, despite the rising figures.

Weekly Covid statistics show rates are rising in 83% of UK areas, with only 16% recording a fall.

Torridge is the worst hotspot in the country, with 602 new cases in the seven days to November 14 - the equivalent of 876.0 per 100,000 people."

The way these statistics are reported isn't very helpful.
Torridge has consistently been at the very bottom of the list for the number of covid cases so having " highest rate of new cases in the country" is quite easy.

Having said that, there are a lot of positive cases all around here at the moment. I think the real figure would be much higher.

Sounds very much like the covid vacccine is not working!

Then what? lockdowns for 6 months every year?? totally unworkable, we just have to live with it and carry on with normal life like pre March 20.

I think it should be compulsory, its proven too help allot and its so easy, why would we not if it helps the situation.
Masks do NOT help.

In fact the evidence from nearly every country that has forced mask wearing non stop for months or over a year now shows that they are actually making the situation worse.

But if they make you feel safer then of course you should wear them!

Cases seem to be tracking the school term. Rose steadily during the first half, dropped back during the half term break, now rising again. The biggest concern must be the numbers. If they are tracking the school term, cases will be very high in the run up to Christmas. Anything we can individually do to reduce this will benefit us all.

It's early days still to know everything about Covid but apparently masks have reduced the incidents of colds and maybe flu. The flip side now apparently being that our immune systems are now more susceptible due to the precautions we've been taking.

I always wear a mask when i go to the garage or shop and looking around i think about 80% of the other customers do. I know it cannot stop me getting it but if i pick it up it will help stop me spreading the virus on in those first few days when i dont know i have it. We all need to try to slow the transmission rate down and if wearing a mask for a few minutes helps then so be it.

I don't think any of the covid measures should be compulsory apart from wearing masks in hospitals and care homes.
Difficult isn't! All the people who deny covid exists or who refuse to take any precautions, would still expect all the help available should they get sick. It's a bit like the walkers who get into trouble walking across the moors or sailers without proper equipment/ experience who expect the emergency services, frequently volunteers, to risk their lives to rescue them

Just thinking out loud now but why do we want to slow the transmission down.? Surely if it spread like wildfire now with most people vaccinated then everyone would have some immunity and it would kill itself off as there wouldn't be anybody new to infect🤔.

I have every respect for you except with regards to Covid where you repeatedly act like an idiot.

The vaccine is doing what was expected and stopping people from becoming seriously ill and needing hospitalisation. This is happening to the extent that many vaccinated people won't be aware or simply wouldn't bother testing to see if they are positive.
This 'high' level of low infection is the best way to herd immunity. I'm guessing that boosters are not going to be required in many cases as people get used to be exposed to covid.

Money/Power

it's about impoverishment, just wearing a new hat

-you're poorer for not seeing people smile when you make contact

-conversations are poorer for not being in person

-your savings accounts are poorer with every pound/euro/$ printed "to help us through"

if you had control of the world's population, would you be hoping for a quick resolution, or milking every minute of it, for your gain

notice the rapid breakdowns in communication lately, people are actively seeking to begin divisive conversations where they once just asked for help or discussed things rationally

the only real difference between something alive and something dead is that the living thing's bits are all connected with the other bits, when that ceases then you have "death", as you see when you delve into the world of regenerative agriculture and then pull it apart

In NZ we have figuratively placed the next 4 generations in debt, and we've lost 33 people who tested positive for covid, post-mortem

I do feel sorry for the citizens of NZ. You'll have to let the virus in one day so all you've gained is a two year delay to your lives.
