New Mccormick Tractors

The Doncaster factory made the smaller four cylinder tractors which still used the 1970's chassis and back axles. Everything totally outdated years before it closed. Even the French built Maxxum tractors and transmissions, which were a late 1980's design, initially meant to replace the bigger David Browns in the Case lineup with transmissions manufactured at StDizier were becoming obsolete by the end. The StDizier plant was sold to a Korean company who continued to make the powershift transmissions for some years before closing it down.
What if Mc used a Cummins? It would be almost identical to the current line-up because the Iveco/FPT NEF engines were co-developed with Cummins but Cummins pulled out to make their own version which is slightly different, for and in N America. The Iveco engine doesn't have far to travel within Italy between the Iveco factory and ARGO. It has a lot further to travel North to New Holland at Basildon, between London and Southend.

The Doncaster IH stuff was outdated yes but I don’t believe the Maxxum line was. The Fiat take over was about 1999 wasn’t it? The ‘New Maxxum’ had a new cab and styling for just two years, the mechanics were 10-12 years old.
I’m sure if you had a look at MF or NH their offerings were every bit as old, particularly the Coventry designs of MF and Fiat derived mechanicals in NH.

This is a question not a bash. Looking at a large McCormick the other day, is it standard with other manufactures to mount reservoirs and pipes etc on the axles ends, effectively in the wheel dish? It looked vulnerable to me.

Yes the Coventry MF chassis was way out of date and past its sell-by date well before the end. What has that got to do with McCormick?

More and more are doing this because the increasing amount of bulky equipment needs to live somewhere on comparatively compact chassis without impairing the serviceability and access to other components, filters and so on.

The maxxum line was stuck at 38kph with 4 powershifts and an internal lift ram. The competition managed to evolve.

Bigger Deere’s- I’ve seen it on a 6155- have a weird diesel tank that goes round the axle on the inside of the wheel….. and some bigger NH s have air driers etc in there. All looks very vulnerable but must be ok I guess. So yes other manufacturers do it.

I have to say that the new x7 tractors really look the business .
Whats the story on the black are the going like valmet and you can pick your own colour ??
Hopefully the new ranges will increase sales for mccormick and frighten the Deere !!!
All brands give trouble its how the respond and support the product that really matters .
Certain tractors say " hello " to me and the new mccormicks are defnitely in that category and hopefully will be in the running next time ,
Yeah and I think (personal opinion) the new X7SWB look even better. And no, factory colours are only cherry or metallic red with grey or black rims. And great to hear you'd consider a McCormick next time 👍

As others have said it's more a case of having somewhere to put stuff. We keep having to put more and more on modern Tractors to satisfy requirements and rules but the physical area to site bits isn't really changing.

Good post , it’s all about giving others a fair try and a unbiased trial . Deere have been clever marketers over the years they groom their customers from Nappies with toys make their products good but when the customer has been a fan since the pram it’s hard nut to

Yes our young grandson sees a tractor as a John Deere his father isn’t much better I was brought up with Britain’s ford 5000s and still do have two real ones. But the Ford dealers were too greedy to give away leaflets to kids back in my day start them young i say .(A bit off topic)

Not really. This is about McCormick. Other brands have their own timelines. So do spell out what the point is that you are trying to make because it escapes me and it would be far better to know and understand.

Point is your wrong if your fingering McCormick for inheriting old lines whilst ignoring that the competition were using stuff every bit as old if not older.

Saying that it was designed ‘in the 80’s’ means nothing when the product was selling in the ‘90s.
MF’s were selling tractors designed in the ‘80s, so too NH 40 series, and JD 6000 series in the late 80’s.

The CX inherited outdated mechanics just as old if not older than the competitions range of simple/livestock tractors, but the MX range had a restyling and refresh and new cab and was only 2 years old at the time of the NH takeover.

Was told not so long ago (true or not i dont know so dont shoot the messenger but it came from a ford enthusiast) that the components of a ford 5000 diff is still bein fitted to new holland tractors up to the tm series and presumably the t7 series as there pretty much the same thing.

Back in the early noughties a large conacre operator close to the edge of the city had the good fortune to sell two small fields for housing for about 8 million
One of them about 3 acres was really only a straw stacking site and a place to park "me lorry " so was no great loss ....
Anyway every dealer around was bringing him out for meals and offering demos to him
Now our man was a pure diesel head and found it hard to resist buying most of them " i love this tractor i think ill buy it " was heard a fair few times by yours truly !!! He ended up owning over 20 tractors all brands were represented from bargain basement SAME silvers which on the whole proved frugal on fuel and reliable to Fendts at the other end of the scale . Oh speaking of SAME " me diamond 260 " proved to be be a pile but it looked good at least !!!
When asked which were the most reliable he would always say the Nh tm seriies or the MF 64 were the handiest on his pocket not that his pocket was under pressure as by now most of his farm was zoned for development
It was " me fendts and autopower johnny deeres that nearly left me in the mental " that cost the most in service and repairs
He still has Fendts based on the quality of the dealers service a stand off with the Deere dealer lasted a few years until he needed a home for the SAME diamond which was the stuff mechanics nightmares are made of !!! She crossed the pond to Cambridge mach sales in the end ,.,.
Currently a large landini is on demo and shortly i expect to hear that " i love this tractor i think ill buy it " .....
