with regenerative braking it is possible to drive an electric car with out using the brakes
and for most drivers most of the deceleration will not need the brakes

electric motors run for thousands of hours with no maintainance

tyres will be the main wearing item on an electric car

4x new tyres just at 20k miles ……. thats about the same as we got from the range rover it replaced and far more than i would expect from a 2.5 t family car that can crack 60 in low 2’s / run 10sec qtr miles !

He sold an electric car. 3 months later it’s back at the dealership with a charging issue. He gives a courtesy car to the people.
8 months later the courtesy car is still with the people because the car manufacturer and battery manufacturer are blaming each other and doing nothing because the first to fold sets a precedent for the whole country with regards to this brand.

what brand ?

you do need to plan though ! this was as i pulled onto our drive yesterday - lichfield to windsor and back ! should have had plenty but sitting behind a accident on the m42 for 1hr30 wasn’t in the plan and made it rather tight !

after 2030 I’m 100% sure it will. be
Do you really think so,

Politicians never stick to promises, !!

There was a UK upgraded power network system promised, but that has got brushed under the carpet,
Ironically without it I can’t see your electric revolution being sustainable, !!

yes you can produce only electric vehicles, but the infrastructure will not be there to power them, alongside all the other electric consuming global warming prevention ideas,

Not against an electric car, but we are on the 3rd day of no power here just now, wife wouldn't have been back from work on Friday when it cut, so by now we'd be walking.
If it was sitting at home fully charged we would probably be still running.
SSEN linesmen guys running about like crazy would all have flat batteries too, and be stuck.

You could say extreme one off event except its not, happening more and more.
Other than a big old diesel genny to get our vehicles charged up again in our current situation, or keeping an additional conventional fuelled car I don't know the answer.

I'm disappointed with under 60k from a set of tyres (and at least 80k from a set of brake pads) but then I drive like a grandad these days.

Oh, I AM a grandad.... :ROFLMAO:

I did "efficient driver training" several times while at the EA. Our car always reports much longer remaining fuel range after I've driven it than after Mel has :ROFLMAO:
Ditto here on mpg and Mrs PBH.
Lots of heavy towing and rough lanes serve tyres hard on my truck.

Our girls' cars generally need new tyres due to punctures before they're worn out🙁. Our lane is rough, but the roads round here aren't much better.

forget the politics- i doubt selling ice is in any manufacturers business plan any more

wouldn’t it be great if your EV could power you home through power cuts ?

who needs a generator then for short term cuts ?

Alternatively, you’d be using the electric car to take power home and back feeding the house supply. How far away does your wife work anyway, when a single day of commute and Saturday shop is enough to empty the tank?

Surely Cars are DC, so to put back into the network would require reverse inverter, can’t see that being either allowed or safe,

I’ve never known a car that goes as fast as an electric car do more than 20k a set. In fact rears often more like 6k. These are fast, heavy cars.

that said. I just cruise round in mine and think I’ll get more than 20k from my first set. Far from the 60k a set I get In my pickup.
Maybe not so environmentally friendly then, leaving all that "rubber" behind

Assuming she'd been doing her usual run on Friday that could have been circa 80-100miles, and then on Sat the same, so 160miles of running.
Not sure what car, and what range we would have but my mate has a Audi Etron that claims 250miles, so taking that headline figure, given its -2°c, been snowy, and the cars going to have heater, demister, wipers on for both that days, what's the real life range? And Mrs FB ain't going to be running down under the 20% battery mark I'm thinking we'd be pretty much done.

We have a wind turbine here and annoyingly it can't run when there is power cuts, but otherwise having an electric battery car would work great for us and allow us an easy way of storing up the power produced, and make for really cheap motoring.
Not against battery cars, but I think the infrastructure/infrastructure planning is not there yet for everybody having one.
It will come but take a while.
