To mask up or not?

I’m astonished that still some folk appear to believe this is a hoax and that governments want to and perhaps enjoy controlling the population. Isn’t there enough evidence that this super flu strain is a killer and therefore has to be taken seriously. Lockdowns are awful yes, but better that than more premature deaths and hospitals full to capacity and beyond.

It's not a hoax. It is a very serious virus for a very small minority. We can pinpoint the large majority of those with underlying conditions who may be particularly vulnerable.

Why have we not made any effort to increase NHS capacity? We've spent a fortune on track and trace. We have student nurses etc. Why send all those with covid symptoms to the general hospital a and e for diagnosis and assistance?

The scaremongering is off the scale. Yes we all need to careful and cautious and yes as many as want to need to have a vaccine to help them. It's just so ott.

Built Nightingale hospitals and hired reefers for the corpses. Dismantled the Nightingales. Now have shortage of hospital space. How odd.

Operating the Nightingales and freeing up normal intensive care units would have highlighted that there was not the staff to carry out the non covid urgent work needed to be done as well.
Guess it came down to what would cause the most stink.

Masks and vaccines are different things are they not? Or do we have to blob think everything and pretend everyone is equally got a chance of getting very ill or dying?
It’s all about incremental gains. Like when they started to analyse sport to see what’s possible. The best Nike trainers won’t make me an Olympic athlete, but they will take a microsecond off the time for someone who is. As one of our best customers says “every little helps”. So we should all (unless there are compelling and genuine medical reasons not to):
Practice good hygiene;
Wear face masks when in close company of others;
Get vaccinated;
Take extra care of ourselves to avoid accidents whilst the NHS is in demand.

You need to question things a bit more when you get off the farm and see the world a bit
Don't need to, when we got nut jobs like you to report the reasons why things are chaotic "out there".
Maybe you should look at the examples, both successful and failed, of controlling disease in the farmyard.

Avian flu H9 N1 is a current case in point. All birds to be housed to isolate them from all outside avian contact and if one gets infected the flock is all slaughtered. That is done not only to protect the domestic bird population but to protect humans that may get infected by the birds and spread it around people, (as if we don’t have enough problems already).

Knee jerk reaction. Sooner I get it, the sooner I'm over it.

Worldwide covid death 5m
World population increase 2021 100m

Migration and population control. Few affluent western biddies dead. Not even dented world population growth. What a fuss.

Population is only growing significantly in a few regions of the worlds. Which has no relevance whatsoever on the great excess of deaths due to covid or the long term life-changing illness that is even more common but not generally reflected in any figures quoted in the media.
Quite frankly your opinion on this is quite disgusting. It reflects very badly indeed on your character and even though you hold them, you would better keep them to yourself rather than having everyone that knows you know what a pillock you really are.

We do not yet know just how serious this variant is or likely to be. There is always the potential for a variant to emerge with a very high mortality rate indeed, like 75 to 90%, so we had all better take things very seriously indeed. Thank goodness the authorities have mostly realised the potential consequences of inaction now, even though many of their subjects still treat it as a somewhat trivial game, taking the early deaths of their fellow humans very lightly indeed.

There's not going to be a variant with 75 to 90 percent mortality. That's drastically higher than the ebola death rate with African medical assistance. You think there could be? Diet of too much BBC fear and panic.
BBC and Government’s remit is to both avoid panic and protect the population. They don’t want to tell you the truth about human susceptibility to outside malevolent influences, and mortality, which is actually no different to any other animal’s, is that anything could potentially wipe out great swathes of us at any time. The probability at any given time is low but increases as severity decreases. The line between everyone's life and death is a very fine one indeed and one you should not take so lightly. That you dismiss the deaths of so many people so lightly, as you explicitly stated in your recent post, is quite disgusting. Not an attitude we would expect from a civilised, decent and rational person.
