Morning all

Today we'll be publishing some information about how the sustainable farming incentive will work when we start rolling it out from next year in England.

I'll post the links here as soon as they're online, and will be here on this thread over the next few days to answer your questions about it.

Update:

Here is a link to our programme blog, with links to the documents we've published today and an explanation of what we're doing and why: https://defrafarming.blog.gov.uk/2021/12/02/sfi-standards/

Also:

Here is a direct link to a document setting out how the sustainable farming incentive will work from 2022: https://www.gov.uk/government/publi...ng-incentive-how-the-scheme-will-work-in-2022

Here is a link to a speech George Eustice, Secretary of State, made this morning: https://www.gov.uk/government/speec...tary-speech-at-cla-conference-2-december-2021

I predict that your sustainable farming incentive will be very short lived. Government is meant to govern...and make long term plans for the best interest of its citizens. Reduce UK food production at your peril. Just look at what's happened to our natural gas supply in this country? Gone from being self sufficient to importing 50%. With plenty in untapped offshore fields and available through fracking. All due to government miss management .

England only ?
Yes, agriculture is devolved.

WAG is working on it's own scheme, with several consultations on it to go yet. The outline Ag Bill for Wales is due next year iirc.
Plaid and Labour signed an cooperation agreement yesterday, where one of the points was to include a 'stability payment' (a flat rate payment) within the Welsh scheme, something which the Unions have been pushing for from the start, and which the minister was adamant wasn't on the table.
Still everything to play for over here. (y)

Actually using other countries resources and keeping our own in reserve isn't such a daft idea, but it needs to be kept in reserve in a state that it can be used quickly if needed.

Are you planning on doing a "Sustainable Air Travel Directive"??? Seems the airlines can do as they wish yet we're getting Sustainability rammed down our throats at any and every opportunity. Air travel is not vital to life where I would hazard a guess that food would be but guess it's all about votes. Kerb air travel losses more votes than pissing off a few farmers to say you've done your bit. Easy pickings

Quite,i fear it will result in reduced production of food and combine this with a UK population increase of circa 320000 per year and one can see there will need to be a substantial increase of imports. So gas guzzling ships and planes will bring this food in ! Sustainable and good for the planet ?
We need a rethink.

Yes, agriculture is a devolved matter so this is England only
I can assure you that as far as Wales and England are concerned farming is not at all devolved on the ground. We are very much dependant on each other if it's only the number of store/weaned calf's etc that are moved to England every week, and the vast volume of straw crossing into Wales ,as just a small example.

The Government rules the Country what ever , the rest think they do and still can't manage without handouts from there whatever!
