Yes, you can do that now, in the main scheme from 2022 you can have both CS and SFI on the same parcel, so long as we're not paying you twice for the same thing, and they're not contradictory actions
@Janet Hughes Defra Sorry Janet; do you mean we can do this now on the pilot agreement we’ve already signed, sealed and delivered…or we can do it from the 2022 scheme year? Also; if we can alter things for each scheme year…why are they 3 year agreements? Thanks and really appreciate your time; each 2 minutes of your time here is saving us 45 mins of being on hold to the defra/RPA helpline and potentially still being none the wiser afterwards!

Yeah so the Vet gets £100/hr and we get about £10/hr for doing the rest of the standards with all the risk 🤦‍♂️

Government departments have never wanted to see farmers as professionals.

Other professions (like the vet you mention) that is seemingly fine, in fact only reasonable. But not farmers. They prefer to treat us as untrustworthy unprofessionals, because that justifies lower financial returns, reinforces the required narrative and dare I say it creates a public sentiment for farms and farmers to be controlled. It's a view aided and abetted by many charities and quangos seeking to justify their own existance.

Can't be arsed to read yet another episode of shuffle the deckchairs. I said what the SFI should look like before Defra had even called it the SFI, somebody just give me a nudge when they get there.

I think plenty of farmers will switch off to the announcements in due course if they aren't careful. A bit like the boy who cried wolf, after a while people get tired of hearing the same thing in a different way but nothing really changing and so they stop listening.

Action not words is what counts.

The culture needs to change for that to happen though.

If a salmon, jelly and marmite sandwich didn't sell in the cafe on the day it was made, just re-heating it the following day and adding a bit of lettuce on top isn't likely to make it sell the following day.

I don’t want to appear rude to Janet , but if they’ve been engaging with farmers, like they say they have, why are they making such a dogs dinner of things. It couldn’t be more wide of the mark if it tried.
Its offering a pittance and wont attract many farmers, and there’s been no answer to what are we to do with these OM test results, which will be massively varied across our glacial moraine anyway. We have everything from sand/ gravel to clay with fields .

Detailed description of soils standard actions

This section gives a more detailed description of the actions summarised above.

Test soil organic matter (both standards)

What
: Each year, you must ensure your soil has been tested for soil organic matter (SOM) within the last 5 years. This applies to all land parcels entered into the standard. If you have already done a SOM test for some or all of your land, that is fine until it gets to 5 years old, when you’ll have to re-do it. If you have not got an analysis for some or all land yet, you will need to get it done for this land within the first year of the SFI agreement. The results are to inform your soil management practices and will not be collected by Defra to monitor addition of organic matter.

When: See above. You may choose to carry out this action at the same time as your other routine soil testing required in Farming Rules for Water.

How: There are a number of commercial providers in the market.

@Janet Hughes Defra Thanks for your presence answering questions 👍🏻

I’m confused ( not difficult ) about claiming Arable SFI on parcels claiming CS

If I have a parcel in Mid tier CS with an AB9 plot for example, can I claim SFI soil standard on that parcel also as there is no double funding??
Would my SW6 option taking up 15% of my total area then count against me claiming the soil standards as I’m being double funded or only on the parcels that contain the SW6 option would be ineligible ??
Could I then amend my SFI application every year to omit the parcels with SW6??

Thanks for the reply Janet, that's good to hear.
As a couple of others have rightly asked, how do we do it? I've just looked on the RPI part of .gov, and the ELM section just shows our pilot SFI agreement, no way of changing / amending / adding. Do we have to ring the RPA?

Should come down now what with thousands of samples labs will have bulk orders!!!!!!
lol like the price of mobile sheep yards and all the rest of the grant funded stuff will fall , yea right ,christmas has come early for their sales figures (whats the betting it will raise about 60-80% of the grant money )
all ive seen so far is paying the "professionals " wages , soil sampling, vets , tec , and equipment manufactures etc etc , out the agriculture pot , oliver corduroy brown has been lobbying for his uni mates ,
dont forget gove said it was going to be easy to apply (in an afternoon ) then down the pub for a drink . i have 58 parcels of land on my claim (38ha entitlement of all low input species rich sheep pasture ) and i dont get the BPS on the rest i farm , that will provide some bubbly at the shareholders party .
Time to cut loose i think, bang the fert on , keep more stock (i do appreciate @Janet Hughes Defra for taking time out for us though )
i recon defra will be looking at about 35-40% take up of the sfi

Quite a few lowland Grazing farms have small fields like you. The scheme wording disadvantages these badly as they need more 'parcels' sampled per farm Ha than an Anglian arable outfit with big open parcels.

My smallest parcel is 1.5 Ha. I have an arable neighbour whose smallest parcel is 12 Ha and averages way bigger.

We both get the same rate per Ha to cover testing.

Unfair.
