Recommend me an oil boiler for central heating only.

As the thread title says I am looking for recommendations. Currently our central heating system of the house consists of an old oil boiler and a woodburner. Next year I need to replace the oil burner as it is on its last legs. Can you recommend me a good one as I have no experience with them. No need for it to include a hot water supply to the house as that is on a separate relatively new system.

We have Worcester Bosch which lives in an outside cabinet. Works well on central heating and hot water tank. Your plumber/heating engineer will do the calculation to see what you actually need in terms of KW.

Grant, Firebird, W Bosch are a pain to service, Warmflow are to be avoided.
If it’s just the burner that needs replacing and not the boiler a lot will depend on the mounting plate/boiler, not something to really guess at 😉

Its the whole unit, burner, boiler, etc. Previous owner did a diy bodge job with second hand bargains that I now want to put right.

I have a Worcester Bosch “toaster” boiler which has sometimes been a nightmare to service if not kept up together with it.

Looking into Grant, what are the thoughts on this unit?
all grant boilers are very similar, you wont go wrong with that one. where is the boiler located? personally id go for this which is the same boiler but less exposed

also, you will want to be careful changing from a 26 to 35kw, as your fuel supply line might not be up to it. 35kw can struggle on 10mm copper supply if its a long run or not much fall on it. if your supply is 8mm then dont even bother, either stick to 26kw or replace line in 10/15mm

For efficiency you need to match the boiler output to the demand. If the previous installation was a bodge, how do you know that the radiators are the right size. If they are old it would be sensible to replace them with high efficiency rads.

Boiler will be in a plant room just outside the house. Oil tank is right next to it so only couple of meters of pipe to replace if its too small diameter.

Replacing radiators will be next step in 2023 or sooner if budget is there, good point though on matching capacity will take that into account.
