Excellent article about vegans getting ill.

Doesn't look like vegans believe in "live and let live"

I would dispute the figures for "new" vegans as quoted in the article-I suspect they include those who try being vegan for a few weeks then revert to a normal diet.

About time the Grauniad bucked up. Before the pandemic, I watched an intelligent, educated, kind, decent young man lose energy and condition over the course of the 6 months of his employment where I was working ~ because he had embraced veganism. I couldn't be sure if he had also developed an eating disorder, but his decline was painful to see. I have to hope he has recovered his health and is eating a healthy diet again.

The penny might be dropping. Even the BBC posted an article of the benefits of eating dairy products today.

interesting article, of the course the experts who disagree will be using every weapon in the book to keep believing that all fat is bad for you, and the vegan meat is bad for climate brigade will never believe anything animal can be good for our health.

That's the lunacy of it, we have evolved as omnivores. If they want us to be plant eaters they'll have to learn all about genetic modification to change our basic biology.

There is a strong case to suggest that veganism is an "eating disorder" in itself.... :(

I have seen a similiar instance several years ago, happily the guy split from his vegan partner and looks better on an omnivorous diet now.

The most pertinent (to this board) thing for me in the article is that veganism has "exploded" from 150,000 of them in 2014 to 600,000 today.

The population of the UK is 67 million, so I'm really not sure why we are so worried.

I think it said something along the lines that 600000 expressed an interest in veganuary.

Fine, maybe so, indeed I was one of them who signed up to keep an eye on what they said. I bet a good % of them had no intention of going vegan permanently.

Not just an eating disorder................ I do think that their brains are not wired up properly with some of the twaddle that comes from them !!

Eating disorders can be complex. I haven't experienced any myself, but some people seem to be predisposed to them, and some seem to aquire them. A young woman I know seems to have been triggered into anorexia by keeping poor company. She was in effect coerced into vegan plus excessive exercise, and spent time in hospital beginning the long journey back to reasonable physical health. Her mental health was slower to catch up.
