Fat lambs in the shed

Got a lot of fat lambs in the shed trying to fatten, but I've never seen a year like it for bad feet. Trimmed and run them through formalin before they went in . What do you use and best way to cure them? Got a stand in Bath if I need to use it. Trimmed most of them today and their feet are as hard as iron. Turned some out onto some grass to try and soften them, didn't work very good though. Any ideas ?

Surely the first question is why are they lame. Is it scald, footrot or CODD? Formalin (no more than 4-5%) will treat scald, but not much use for either of the others.

Standing them in Zinc Sulphate will help footrot (eventually) but if it's CODD I would have thought you'd have to be looking at antibiotics, either by injection or in a footbath.
Scald and foxtrot. Formalin has always worked well in previous years.

A 'stand in' bath with zinc sulphate will be your best option then IMO. It does take a lot longer if there's any number though.:(

It could be argued that a footbath with an antibiotic (lincospectin or tylan/pharmasin) would cure them faster, and be better for animal welfare on that basis, if a lot of them are lame already? Not as a routine use, but as a treatment procedure I would certainly use it.
