I ran one of these on 21st September 2021. Someone suggested running another given we have had some more recent announcements, so here it is.

Same question as before:

Based on your current understandings of the scheme today, will you be looking to take part in the future SFI/ELMS scheme?

Poll will close in 10 days

Right now, I am really not sold on it. Basic standard represents a 90% cut to payment and a 90% increase in Admin We have one chance to bring about improvements before the proposal is forced upon us, vote wisely....
Same here.

I believe that SFI could generate some "income" here, on some of the land. However, the sheer buggeration factor is at present tending to make me say no at this juncture.

Can we have an I don’t know option?
Yes, I’d also like a Don’t Know option.

There is so much confusion about it all and SFI is in danger, yet again of ending up far too complicated for too little reward.

I do hope that @Janet Hughes Defra takes note so that she can get it right before ELMs proper starts.
She is obviously interested to see what we think and feel about it all, which must be a good thing.

We mustn’t forget that the 2020 amount spent of BPS and Stewardship is ring-fenced to be redistributed another way once Elms starts in 2024 and when BPS ends in 2027.
But trying to see where and how it is fully distributed, whilst trying to keep it as simple as possible so that farmers can do it themselves, without needing an agent, isn’t going to be easy!

But as I understand and might be wrong, often am isn’t the pot divided into 3 in 2027 in which sfi/elms etc is all in one pot? So the maximum pot for farmers is reduced as the other pots include landscape recovery etc to keep rspb/ Nat trust happy?

The issue is that the proposal is that Landscape Recovery and LNR will be soaking up a large % of the funding... A VERY large %...

As I understand it (I also could be wrong!), it is that all the pot of BPS plus Stewardship paid to farmers in 2020 (£3 billion-ish) will be paid to farmers in 2027, but for Environmental “Public Good” benefits rather than area payments.

We maybe need somebody more clued up as my take was the farmers bit was max £1 billion and the other 2 billion went into the other pots. So the whole current budget became the budget for all the different schemes hence the lower payment rates for sfi etc as it will never have the whole budget of bps even in 2027

In theory farmers can get money from all three pots

Plenty of sites that they "farm".... Natural England the same...
Are they not already claiming part of the £3bn BPS and Stewardship pot?
We either take on board what will happen and look to take maximum advantage of it, or be pessimistic about it.
It is frightening and nobody likes change. But if you can’t stand the heat…..!

Nobody knows for sure yet exactly how it is all going to pan out.
It was just the same when IACS started, The MacSharry Proposals, SFP and BPS.
We all worried about it until very close to when it actually started and we understood it better.
Perhaps we should all stop speculating and winding each out up!
