Tidying up SP sprayer, gonna give it a bit of a spruce up and repaint the rusty, rubbed, faded parts.

what’s the best way to do it?

so far have rubbed down and primed as we go.

thinking about ttop coat, was watching ollyblogs where he resprayed the fendt, he put lacquer on after top coat.

Is lacquer worth doing?

Is it definitely worth doing?

what is lacquer?!

given the conditions the machine works in - chemical drift, splashes from wet tramlines, the annual oranging of the back wheels during pre-Em, is there anything we should be doing to make it easier to keep clean and shiney?

If you could strip it down enough I would highly recommend asset coatings in Montrose. The guy does literally paint everything so I would just give him metal bits. But did a great job and not difficult to pay.

Was a good few years ago now we used him though.

For bits I paint on machines I use chassis paint from nortruck. It's horrible tar like stuff. Which is a good thing in my opinion.

Do you think you'll put any fluorescent wool along the booms for night time spraying!?

🤣

considering glitter.

It’s more the chassis we’re in about just now, and I’m just wanting t freshen it up and cover any bare bits.

I wonder if it would be worth getting a specialist to put on a ceramic coating on the bits of your sprayer that attract the orange, maybe these coatings would make it a lot easier to remove?
There’s not going to be any specialist input into this job, purely workshop project to tighten up the loose bits and well tidy up rough bits while we’re there

Just don't do what I did and try to thin the paint with a flame on a cold day in winter!🤦‍♂️🤠

Be worth speaking to someone in oil industry and get paint they use on boats and oil rigs. Normally means ££££s though.

If you are rubbing down due to rust then a twisted rope wire brush on a grinder does a better job. Do not skimp on PPE if you do use one as they do not forgive.
You won't get all the rust off no matter what you do so use a cloth to wipe over the bare metal with some Kurust type product. I like Burgess Marine heavy duty rust cure but wipe it on instead of brushing it on (just makes less mess). This stops the rust coming back as quick.
On top of that I would use acid etch primer which you can get in an aerosol. Just a very fine mist coat, you are not trying to paint it with it.
Then primer, top coat and lacquer if you want. I would do 2k primer and top coat and my local auto paint shop will mix and put in an aerosol for smaller jobs. Again, do not skimp on PPE.

Get it shot blasted and then 2 pack prime and 2 pack paint top coat. Lacquer is just a clear coat on top of the colour, most often used with metallics, a base coat and clear top coat.
I rebuilt my Agribuggy from a burnt our wreck and thats what I used, shot blast, 2k primer rubbed down then 2k topcoat. Still as good as new after 6-7 years, no rust evident anywhere.
But to do it yourself I would advise a decent compressor 14 cfm + and make sure you use a decent mask (preferably air fed) as the fumes are not that great for you.
Have found it a decent hard wearing gloss finish.
Plastic coating seems much like powder coating, rust starts under it and you find you can then pull it off in sheets. But to be fair I did have some Manitou rims powder coated and they are still spot on after a good 15 years of abuse

2k paints contain isocionates or something like that, they give you lung problems asthma, so using 2k means proper ppe which is usually air fed mask… just Google that so your aware, it’s not nice.

if using 2 coats the base in car stuff is water based, ( so the colour is water based std mask job lacquer is 2k)you then seal it with a 2k lacquer. You don’t need to 2k over 2k it’s pointless

presonally for machines I use acrylic (commonly known as machine paint!)the likes of vap do a lot and another brand I can get you which is very good stuff, this is no where near as nasty as 2k gives good gloss hard wearing and pretty good at resist resistance and easy to spray, hence why it’s used for machines a lot that would be my choice.

just realised I’m sure its kramp machine paint I’ve used, it’s good stuff most ag dealers supply it to I got mine from Rfs.
