Connecting to a water main

Anybody recently had dealing with a local water authority about connecting to the mains? Its about an 800m run so I am after an idea of cost per metre if possible?

If you want the utility to bring the water to you it wl be an arm and leg job.
Can you not run pipe to the main so just a meter connection, which alone will bring tears.
LD100 which I think is the new replacement for MDPE ( or so I was told ) have just had a quote 87 pence a meter for 32mm. Not sure how competitive that is.
Trenching should be no more than 2 days work for a machine plus any road crossings which will need licence and thrust bore

Sorry I wasn't clear. We have been asked to send a mini digger and man to dig a trench to connect a water supply to a property. The property owner has then asked us for some advice as follows. So they have got to cross 400m of private land to reach the main road (will have to cross private tarmac drive and then in farmland for the rest of the run). Once on the main road they then have to run 400m on a grass verge (councils at a guess) to meet up with the main water supply coming from the local town. We have priced up the pipe, fittings and machinery and it seems like a ball ache of a job thats going to cost a lot and I wondered whether water authorities do this as a fixed charge to property owners and whether these people would be better off going to direct to them? After all at the mains pipe end the water authority will have to connect anyway. All we can do is run the pipe to it.

My only experience of connecting to a main the local AW just supplied a meter at the edge of the road. We then had to get the pipe to the meter which they then slotted in?
The grass verge will normally belong to the landowner alongside but I have never know a utility bother to contact landowner. You will need a licence and part of this you wil be informed if there are pipes and cables there.

Any idea on the actual connection cost when we have all the pipes in place? I tried ringing the local authority to be told that they needed £140 up front to talk about it and then it may require a survey so could be more just to find out.

6 months ago my landlord laid a 300 mtr length in 50mm bore plastic,
water board made him put non return valve in before they would connect to the mains supply and because it was new supply they wanted the pipe flushing out with clorine incase of any comtaminents in the pipe
,bloke came with his back hoe to dig the trench ,we put the pipe in so saved a fair amount there
He did tell me how much they charged to connect to mains ,it wasnt cheap

Anglian water wanted £1200 +vat just to dig a hole and make the conection,,pipe ran straight down a field side and mains pipe was on the same side so nothing complicated

Then they are taking the p155 as if you've put your pipe in and there pipe is same side of road they told me £180. That's for new connection to my new shed

We were involved in a 60mm pipe being run from main to Mum and Dads house plus a steading delevopment. Was all done local digging contractor then testing/ flushing and connecting was done by an authorised contractor http://nicolofskene.co.uk/. It was live connected to the main with a special fitting.

Water board refused to adopt new pipe that we put it though.

Sorry don't know cost. Was a lot cheaper than Scottish Water would be. Local water company will have authorised contractors who can make connections etc.

Bit concerned after a call today which suggested that AW would need a week to dig 60m under the road. Wonder how many cups of tea will be consumed?
