Power harrow pto speed and forward speed

Most combi drills come with a hydraulic fan nowadays so no need to run the power harrow full pelt to run fan.
Running the power harrow at a slower speed of say 600 (if conditions allow) would require more power or would be easier to drive allowing a faster forward speed?

If you want to run at a certain speed, then adjusting rotor speed makes sense. My ph has two speeds just for that. We always have it in high, and adjust forward speed instead. No need to spend all that sunshine, going nowhere 🤣

Yes I get that, with good disc coulters and good pressure the seed bed isn't as critical. Would it take less power running the power harrow slower?
Yeah we do this a lot especially in very stoney stuff slower rotor speed lets the stones pass through. As long as you're deep enough the discs will put the seed away

On the power question I'm not sure as we just shut the tractor revs back when needed

we run at just over 1000pto speed but have the dials set so it can drag the tractor down to around 950pto.

vario tractor

as for depth we find the clod board is our limiting factor as too deep kills out put

but on 4m combi we’re probably a little tight on HP to truly boss it in any conditions at higher speeds

How much is that?
I have 220 on a 4m and i only run out of power on hills. On heavy ground the ph can’t work it out faster than we can pull it.

If you drive too fast or rotor is too slow you get the soil moved like the right. Could create uneven establishment. As long as seed in the right place with enough moisture to start to grow then it doesn’t matter.

Had a new Kuhn combi for this season with hydraulic fan, replacing 13 year old 3003 and LC302 drill with pto/belt driven fan.
Was able to drop pto speed down to 540-600rpm in light ground no problem and probably saved a minimum of a litre per acre of diesel if not pushing two sometimes.
Also if the power harrow is turning less must surely help with tine wear.
