Anyone known of an issues with JR Firby?

Hi all,

Has anyone known of any issues with sales from JR Firby at Slingsby?
Bought a David Brown from him which when i tried it, seemed to be in good working order with everything working and he told me that everything worked as it should even the PTO (which i specifically asked about). Got it home and put it to work and can't engage the PTO (the clutch plate seems stuck) and the selectomatic lever has come off in my hands. I've never seen a leaver just come off either so it must have been going for some time.

He was reluctant to reply to my phone calls for some time and when he did, he didn't seem interested in sorting it until i reminded him that he told me that everything worked as it should, and that given the price I've paid for it, it is now parked up and of no use.

He's supposed to be calling round to look at it at some point, so hopefully he'll follow through on that.

they have a very good reputation which they wont want to lose, so im sure they will get it sorted

When you say the PTO wont engage, do you mean it's grating against the gears or the lever wont move to engage the gears?

Don't know what you mean by 'selectomatic lever'.
The lever
So it was working when you looked at it?
the PTO engaged when I looked at it but grinded a little. What I didn’t know at the time was this was because the clutch plate was stuck so the clutch wasn’t actually doing anything. Firby seemed to think it was fine. It’s only now I bought it and put load onto it that it won’t engage at all. The lever just grinds and won’t move.

I meant the lever that lifts the lift arms up and down.

I'm guessing its a dual clutch? Can you feel the second clutch under your foot as you press the pedal? Sounds like it needs adjusting. Will the lever move with the engine stopped?

Does it have a hand clutch or is it a dual clutch on that model, does it make any difference when you pull the clutch on or does it just grind the same when the clutch is activated or not

It is a duel clutch it doesn’t really feel any different to the first stage.
