if it was a "window to her character " you are saying she goes around kicking and slapping kids ???? dont be so daft!!!!. the animal was in perfect health it was being little bugger and after a small reprimand loading in a perfect manner...

You're obviously not someone who has ever experienced the frustration of a stubborn horse, like you have never done something that would look bad if video recorded by someone with a grudge!

If you both read what I was replying to, you'd know what I actually meant!

She lost her self control.

Over virtually nothing at all-the horse was reluctant to load but wasn't playing up much, when it got loose it was easily caught again.

So, if you child was a bit naughty in school and the teacher lashed out with a foot and then a few slaps around the face, would you think that was OK?

I have a feeling that if kids thought it was a possibility that a teacher just might do it then schools would be a far better place!

It’s strange how just because something takes place in the countryside, we think this subject worthy of agricultural matters rather than off topic.
IMO as long as we consider the hunt to be part of agriculture (which they are absolutely not) then we will always cause ourselves trouble with the general public on this issue.

Did you see the manner in which the horse got loose?
Or just the posted video, which only showed it spooked and loose on the road?

Not sure we all thought that when the hunt took casualties instead of us now having to pay incinerators, whether you like it or not the hunt are still part of the countryside & long may they be so, not that I have ever followed the hunt.
Once you let ignorant ill informed protesters rule the roost we are all done for!

They are part of the countryside, they are not part of agriculture. A school teacher punching a horse at a hunt meet is not an agricultural issue.
Also, the hunt charge to take our dead stock, the same as The knackerman does.

you are not going to convince me that the hunt is a benefit to my farm.

When horses are sorting out a pecking order they inflict much worse than that on each other. They can properly bite and their kicks are 10 times the force of any human. I doubt if the horse was left with any physical or psychological scars after what she did.
Yes but humans are meant to be the more intelligent of the two…..

It’s a tricky one, would she of attracted so much attention and been sacked if she’d been……..

An Insulate Britain protestor?
A mayday rioter?
An animal rights fanatic threatening farming families?
Thrown eggs at politicians?
Been filmed fishing?
Emptying a mouse trap?
Putting down salt to keep snails off her garden?
Shooting rabbits?
Slapping and kicking a human man who wouldn’t bloody listen?

Trial by social media resulting in loss of her job isn’t right, it’s weak.
would a teacher be cancelled who's hobby was Grouse shooting? Or driven Pheasant shooting?

She squared it up, reinstating who was the boss, and then quietly led it into the trailer.

I would have done so with a firmer, and obviously more discreet, smack, but the result would have been the same.

Luckily I don’t get to do much with horses, but I’m guessing you guys berating her haven’t been within ten foot of one….

There was a series of facebook posts recently about a local dog, an old terrier. Apparently it got into a scrap with another dog and afterwards the other owner kicked the poor little thing so hard it had to be taken to vet. It was diagnosed with internal bleeding and had to be put down. The owners reported this to the Police but wouldn't say in public who the other owners where.

This is obviously horrific - but because the name of the kicker has not been released I bet nothing comes of it.

The woman slapped a horse and has had her life ruined because the hunt sabs wanted to make an example of her because she was hunting.

The teacher should be reinstated.

It was a heat of the moment reaction - and I am not sure that I would have done different. I do know that there were better ways to get that horse loaded. Her being a bit calmer could have resulted in a better long term outcome for loadng the horse in the future and her career.

Hindsight - it would have been better to lead the horse around for a bit authoritaively, firmly but calmly and loaded the damn thing. It knowing who was boss but done without making it harder to catch & load next time. But everyone can have 20/20 hindsight.

That's the whole point-her reaction was totally over the top.

Wouldn't want someone who gets wound up that easily looking after children.

Kicked a cow that was laying into a trapped calf once. The cow almost went down and looked at me as if to say 'how did you do that?' Must have caught it on a leg nerve somehow. Anyway the calf was happy.

I’m not a shooter but with firearms ownership there’s an expectation of responsibility, so no. Not that long ago the local headteacher and minister would be regulars on the shoots. Doubt there’ll be many attend now.

I’ve more a problem with the prying into the sexual activity of primary school kids, than what the teachers do for a hobby, but that’s state sanctioned prying in Scotland now. 😡
