Has anybody seen the NEXAT machine that Germany Company Kalverkamp are testing at the moment? Have a look at their website nexat.de (best press the english speaking button) The machine has just won a gold medal from this years Agritechnica awards. It looks really quite remarkable. Somewhere on You Tube U saw a very good video in English of it working (maybe somebody else can find the link)
Two 540 HP engines, 12 metre working width. They are talking about combine outputs of 130-200 tonnes per hour! and have a 70 metre Dannman sprayer that fits on it.
Gantry machines are not new- I remember seeing one operating in Warwickshire in the 1980's but the NEXAT machine appears to move this concept onto a whole other level. I am sure the price tag will be huge but imagine replacing a combine, self propelled sprayer and main tractor with just one machine.
Obviously very much a broad acres type machine but I could see this machine having big potential on the very largest of farms.
What do people think?

There’s always a monumental Achilles heal with these ‘white elephant’ concepts:
- As soon as one central part breaks then the rest of the required kit becomes utterly redundant.
- It can’t harvest / spray / cultivate at the same time like conventional kit on separate tractors.
- Massive capital investment at a single point instead of flexible spending over time.

If nothing else, it reinforces the worth of a common three point linkage / semi mounted / trailed attachment system.

Not really any different to the 90’s and min till fad where the bigger farms sold all their kit and bought a big crawler that followed the combine with a cultivator then turned around and drilled everything. I even know of one unit who then turned around again and used the crawler to roll everything.
One big power unit doing the job of 3 tractors and 3 men previously.
these units then even short term hired in the corn cart tractors and used students for harvest. Then come September the students and hired tractors went leaving the big crawler and one full time chap to effectively do the autumn campaign.

Plenty of ECU laden machines already in Ukrainian.

A cousin who visited described all the vehicles on the roads there as being nearly all brand new range rovers (or similar luxury cars) and the occasional remains of something Soviet.

Those that can afford the ECUs though can afford to get out if something does happen or just by another disposable vehicle.

Perhaps in some countries it might just catch on in big prairie style farms, in the East or Canada or America, depends on price of course.

I could see a couple of these machines with interchangeable tools on perhaps the massive farms that are in Ukraine.

I remember in the Scottish Farmer there was a picture of part of a potato field and I'm sure it was 1100 acres 😲

36 m sprayers are getting quite common amongst the potato growers up here imagine if someone had come up with a video of that idea when 12 m was a big sprayer.

The cab offset on the combine version doesn't look so handy but who knows what video cameras can do.

Very interesting idea, but doubt it'll be something for the UK.

The UK one was made a guy called Dowler , i regularly saw it working along the Fosse way on my home - the cab rotates on the Ukraine one which is brilliant for visibility - there was an MF project CGI made with similar somewhere !

edit mmmm not quite as i remember - might be another will have a look
