Swede turnips aren't what they were. Footling, insipid little watery things, now. That's definitely a decline.

Short on cash and also short on rich food, we ofttimes had thick cut potato chips fried in lard, well shaken when done and tipped into bowls and canned cream of chicken soup poured over them and eaten with thick, white, sliced bread and lashings of butter; or if times were really bad Echo margarine but the marge would spoil the magic.
Wasn't keen on sugar butties but didn't mind condensed milk ones.

Boy got a selection box of chocolate bars. Goodness me, so tiny now. Why can’t the chocolates size stay the same and put the price up? He basically got a plastic tray as a gift with a small amount of contents.

Never got to drink any of that stuff but I do remember the song ...... we are the Ovelienies little boys and girls!
And some of the posh kids near us ate brown bread ( it had a taste) and used IZAL toilet paper; no slips of news papers on a nail for them.

They used to be called sticky bottoms in our house,brown sugar and syrup I presume with cinnamon rolled in pastry
Turkish delight in a tub or box,wrapped in a greaseproof paper like cover with a fine dusting of sugar.
Don't know if they still do them but we always had crystalised fruit at Christmas, came in a display box like chocolates
