I wondered what you call the lump on the front, given that we call that part the header. I guess “fronts” is as appropriate as anything! 😁

it can also be called the “comb”, & they are transported on “comb trailers”

the first old Sunshine & Massey Harris harvesters, were an integral machine with the front permanently fixed on the machine, so the whole machine was called a “header” & the bit out the front ( which were originally closed fronts ) a “comb” as they action was similar to a comb through hair . . .

old terms stick

Is it hard to get approval?
Need some justification and depends where it is etc, applied to department and they couldn't even find on maps so that made it a lot easier in this case. Wouldn't like to do anything without some sort of agreement as there are so many changes that happen over years that are not communicated or are buried in government waffle.

So, somewhere I was talking about how all this wheat went under water & how the heads were full of silt & that the dust was causing issues . . .
This 80 tonne bin has an auger that runs the full length of the floor, to drag grain to the centre unloading auger. It blocked up yesterday, burning out a set of belts, which I replaced with spares, which worked for a while but then also burnt out. The silt / dust is just binding it up & making it very hard to turn. Round trip of nearly 200km this morning to get more belts. Pulled the clean-out slide out from under the floor auger to let grain & dirt flow out, managed to part load one truck before it jammed up again.
It is also affecting the outloading augers on the chaser bins & the headers, reducing their capacity significantly. The grain also peaks up high ( like wet grain ) & doesn’t fliw

To give an indication of how heavy the soil conditions are, when pulling a full chaser bin out of the paddock ( down the CTF tracks ), with a JD 8400, we are limited to about 6 - 7 km / hr, to manage engine temperature. As soon as we get back onto the centre road, temp quickly drops down again
You wouldn’t pull anything across here with smaller tyres

Would it be possible to put a partial bridge over the floor auger, to take some load off it? Eg 2 metre sections, with gaps in between to let grain through

yeah, it already has a bridge the full length of it, with a gap between the bridge & the floor to allow grain to run around it & to the auger
The silt / dust is very fine, like talcum powder & just packs down tight

Got any pool noodles? if you blocked off one side, preferably the "going down side" (I don't know how to better describe it from here) and just left the other side open, might help keep the auger slightly less full to compensate the heavier stickier product

can't imagine they are leisurely, relaxed trips to Vegas for more belts

Nice place, I've not been, but it has a "sister city" thing with Gore and so a fair few people I know have been there

never heard a bad word about it 👍

I don’t know if it’s a particularly “Australian” thing to do, but we tend to add “Vegas” on to town names as a bit of a joke about them being a big / exciting place
