Auntie and uncle round for Xmas, young lad has made a miniature Lego diorama of the western front complete with tank. (Haven’t a clue where he got that idea)

anyway, he brought it down and was explaining it to retired history teacher Uncle Bill.

“and that’s the allies trenches, that’s the Germans” 😁

And that bit in the middle was called no mans land

“why?”😄

because no one controlled it, if you ventured out, youd likely get shot

“would you die?”😀

probably, it would also have a lot of land mines and they also used poisoned gas

“…………..”🤔

Parental interjection - “but not at Christmas, they all came out and played football and sang carols”

“and they stopped fighting?” 😟

yes, but a lot of them were actually shot for fraternising with the enemy when the senior officers found out about it

😧…..“………I…….I think I’m going to take this away now…”🏃‍♂️💨

🤣

old school! No cancel culture or safe spaces back in the day, tell it like it was………. even if they’re only 7! 🤭

We were given the painting below for a present yesterday. Done by a friend of my stepdaughter, I thought it was exceptional. She’s only about 23 and the photos below show how much of a likeness she was able to get. Such talent in one so young!

Habit ! I tag everything in the field right at birth. Within a day they are like greyhounds and I can’t catch them
I used to but I spotted that one day a cow was kicking its newborn calf off because the tag was rubbing her udder so I now leave it till they get well used to it .........and also to make sure the buggers are going to live !
It is ,I agree, more of a challenge a week or so later .
I have one in the field that's now at least 2 mths old and I won't have a hope of tagging it till they next come in !

Latest sunrise of the year this morning. The days can get longer in the mornings now too.

We came to this part of France 16 years ago and I have always noticed that the mornings continue to get darker after the shortest day, and nothing changes much until mid January. At the moment, not fully light until 9.00. Reminds me of the time in the late sixties when ‘They’ experimented with not putting the clocks back and we stumbling about in the dark for the first hour of the working day.

Agreed, world on maximum 2.5 degree tilt so everything out of kilter. Warmer autumns/winters, colder springs plus delay to lighter mornings.
