Log splitter- tractor powered to pto conversion

I want to convert my log splitter from being powered by the tractor hydraulics to have its own pump and tank to save keep connecting pipes when hooking on and off.
Will want a tank and pto pump and gearbox so where’s the best place to buy?

WHY????

Easier to connect pipes than keep greasing and fitting a pto shaft.
At moment it’s on my DB880 so the feed to the splitter comes from the trailer spool valve and it’s goes back in the proper return on rear axle I believe, which requires spanner’s!
With a pto pump there’s no shaft it’s straight onto the pto shaft and then it’s simple to put on any tractor.

Get an adaptor or pipe made up to screw in the oil return port and fit a quick release coupling to it, preferably a male, and a female on your return so you can't mix up pipe connections. Simples!

well, just go ahead, and look for hydraulic group, you got them in classes, I think that depends on PTO style and then the flow and pressure your splitter uses.
install the group (mostly) between tractor and splitter, and split away!

An 880 will drive a pto logsplitter as well as a £120000 fendt
And this 780 replaced a 200 hp Deutz on the dryer and all on 35 litres of diesel per day .

i built a pto one because because its far far faster , especially on an old small engine tractor
and the oil runs cooler /doesn't knacker the tractor oil so quick.
no shaft on mine just the pump fits straight on tractor pto stub so its safer than a shaft driven.
and it stays on that old small lowcost tractor most of the time .

well worth doing for the extra efficiency if youre splitting a fair bit of stuff.

Richard lane st neots area ,had a couple old farmhand loaders for sale with pto pumps ,
you would have oil tanks pump and every thing you want

will still need a double acting valve with kickout .
Tanks not difficult to sort out can even be a plastic one but fairly decent capacity mind you so oil stays cooler.

You would get pump tank etc , then @Mr Happy is your man for all things hydraulic
yes got to get the right pressure strength/ltr per min type of pump no use just buying anything .

mines upwards of 100ltr min which is a bit more than the Majors pump does what it hitched to, i wanted return cycle speed as a priority over particularly high pressure. , anything too knotty , like dry oak will get sectioned with the saw.
mind you got a big ram on him.
but mate from oz was over back along and he laughed what they call a splitter is built like a tank fudging massive machine and can easy tackle old stumps they dig out.... i digress......

When i did mine .i used rams out of an old dustbin lorry ,all on 3/4 jic , so quite big bore , rams are quite big barrels ,with big rods so return side dont take much oil ,
its a horizontal can put 30 inch rings on it and upto 2 ft deep , blade is inch plate ,with a full width cutting blade out of 500 hardox machined to make a blade ,and 3 at 90 degrees to it , so it cuts a slice as big as you want and then splits it in three ,have 2 rams if need more grunt havea 3 rd ram piped in with taps , so more push down ,😳😳and lifts on the middle one making it quicker ,
have a electic solenoid valve which is foot operated ,as a safety valve only works if foot on valve ,and pull lever away ,to go down ,
not for the faint hearted , but not stopped it yet and will cross cut 10/12 inch , but logs fly and that is scary
just run off spool ,so will follow what you end up doing as pto ,maybe better and use older tractor

but then won't you be connecting/disconnecting a PTO shaft? Why duplicate pump, reservoir etc when you have one already on the tractor or is that a silly question?
