Speaks a man who has never seen a field of grass with excessive cover totally buggered by prolonged snow / frost
I’m waiting for the frost so I can get my 250 autumn calvers out onto the crap grass and start grazing
Sooner let the cows work for me rather than the me work for the cows
Had a number of years running 2 farms where cows were out 24/7 and never seen a shed , so I have grazed in frost/snow for periods of time

I just hate it. Hate everything about it.
Hate that the cows don't milk as well as normal
Hate how milking seems to take 4 times as long
Hate that the cows sh!t everywhere
Hate putting the samplers up
Hate taking the samplers down
Hate not having the radio on
Hate getting the information ready for the recorder
Hate seeing the 200 quid come out my bank account every month
Etc etc
Just Hate it 😂😂
Do you need to do it?
Stopped here in 2009 ,I’ve never missed it.

I'm sure ploughing makes our ground drier
Had a lad sow some with a guttler set up,great job but it panned and I ended up with puddles all winter, has its place but the plough suits our ground better.

Unfortunately a necessary evil, I need the scc and johnes info and the butterfat and protein data is useful as well but need the yields etc for the pedigree side of things

Do it once every 3 months here for Johnes and SCC. 4 times a year is bad enough.

Do you need to do yields/BF/P for pedigree purposes? Was thinking about starting to register some of the heifers as they come into the herd in the future, but wouldn't want to go back down the monthly milk recording routine. Can you use the parlour yields?

So much grass ,all must be crap , must get some sheep in and clear it off , then cows can stay in til may
Don’t think so, dry weather and they’ll be grazing
Grass measure just done and average cover is 2390
It’s surprising with all the rain we’ve had how dry the fields are

do you do any johnes testing?
Very low levels here ,do 30 milk samples a year.

Stopped being pedigree at same time, parlour milk records every milking,I know who the duffers are.

Get the radio it’s the whole point. Freeze brand for relief staff going forward, in parlour management etc. Finally if the recorders a boot there’s plenty young and blonde one’s sure you’d be happier all round 😉

Didn`t you know choice of recording organisation is entirely down to which employs the fittest recorder in your area.
Especially relevant as I suspect @Jdunn55 may be single ;)
