JCB problem

Seal gone i think in the ram that pushes out the beam on the JCB ....the pins going through the boom are proving stubborn .
We have belted them with a sledgehammer , made a frame and put a 20 tonne hydraulic jack on them but they still won't move .
Any suggestions ?

The pin has probably bent with use, happens on many makes and models. Its not uncommon to drill them out. Get or borrow a mag drill.

A friend of mine burnt pins out on a JCB with an oxyarc set. Pretty spectacular!

Looking at the ends of pins on second hand jcbs i would say there will be plenty of people with advice on how to remove them

+1 for hyd pecker.

Done them on handlers that have spent 7000hrs+ on dockside fert plant. They can be really stubborn though. Mixture of hyd pecker on 4.5t manitou plus gas and grinders on the worst one

Lot of swearing that day, we were pushing whole jcb sideways with the pecker on the Manitou and it still wouldn’t budge. Had to wedge jcb against rsj in shed. Cut where we could and took it out in sections.

Have used a pecker on 5 ton digger before and the pin came out with ease had a telehandler on the other side pressed against the boom though

All of these, used a pecker on a 1.5 t JCB, pin came out of my Weidemann in a few minutes.
There’s a photo on the workshop section.

Heat it up red then put water on it to break it.
If that doesn’t work burn out as much as you can of the pin from either side then water on to break it then bray it out.

Pepper pot burner and get the bush cherry red,tried a 3t digger and pecker on one,it didn’t touch it,heat did the trick.

Took it to local precision engineers . They made a frame up to go around the boom and put a pretty strong hydraulic press in the frame and kept upping the pressure till they budged . No photos I'm afraid cos I buggered of to Newbury to look at some cattle .
Got back and JCB sat in yard with pins all out .

Been there got the T Shirt - JCB Pins are soft compared to Manitou Pins - so being soft they easily mushroom when you hit them with a big sledge - often seized in the bosses that support them - a real pig of a job all round - for those that were threaded I had to screw long High Tensile Bolt into pin, weld around to strengthen and make a frame to screw against combined with heat and drift from other side - local JCB use a Thermal Lance for boom pins.

I have seen the thermal lance used for removing worn/seized boom pins on heavy plant. Its quite a sight and like a knife through butter!
