The Kuhn Aero is making a comeback

I have just seen Rauch is about to relaunch the mounted boom spreader in widths of 18-30m. As well as a larger tank the new version has been updated with isobus and six variable rate sections. The booms look like they fold up a lot more easily as well.
With the way fertiliser price’s are going, are they going to become common place or has the spread pattern of spinning disc spreaders become accurate enough to leave them for niche markets?

I recon these machines will be used to put cover crops into growing crops , before harvest, in the future, especially if this carbon farming takes hold.

Depends on cost compared to a sprayer and going liquid I guess.

Not for me though. Have at least one line of poles across half my fields. So a spinner will have to stay here for now.

If I’d managed keep a bettinson drill we used to use in the 70s and a bamlet/tive jet fert spreader I used in the 80s I’d be right on trend now

The fields we have with poles don’t really have straight edge to start on. I drill striking out with the poles. You end up with short work either end of the field but you don’t have to worry too much about poles.

Yeah, they come round again, until we remember how hopeless they were last time, and the 30/40 year cycle repeats.
Still got a Bamlet 20m air jet here, ( Bamlet never made a 20m) but we have one

Having run a Kuhn / Rauch 2220 the cost was only justified by being able to use very cheap Russian / Ukrainian / Lithuanian AN and urea, of such variable quality that you wouldn’t want to spread it through a spinning disc.
On the one hand you can’t buy ‘cheap’ imported fert as the likes of Lithan has improved and no longer sells at the same discount. On the other hand, spinning disc spreader tech has improved, and the difference in price to a mounted Aero will never be paid back unless it’s applying (at a guess) in excess of several hundred tonnes of fert per year.
