A mate had an ASI Paratrooper in the 70s, it had a tube magazine that you filled with pellets, and it would automatically load one into the barrel as you broke it to cock the mainspring.

Think ours is a BSA Cadet or Cadet Major, must be from the 50's It can just about stop a rat but squirrels barely flinch, probably time for retiring it and getting something with a bit more stopping power. New air riffle justifiable as a tax deductible expense and if so which one, if any, from the choice below, would you buy... ?

I once saw a girl on a clay trap; lean over to get the next clay, nudge the cocked trap arm with her shoulder which then hit her square across the jaw 😳 She escaped with a black eye/bruising but just shows how quickly things can go wrong!
Years back we borrowed a trap and it was a powerful bugger
My mate went to load it and it went off...turned him upside down
He was sore for a while after that

I’ve a old British made Webley longbow does the job for feral pigeons and rats and will of had it’s fair share of rabbits when I was younger👍👍

looked into getting A fancey PCP air gun but it made a rifle licence look cheap so got a .22lr BRNO for rabbits £150 with scope and moderator and is as accurate as a new gun
Wish I’d taken your advice when I asked this a few years back. PCP’s are an expensive game

Move to Scotland and you'll know all about it. You'll need a licence even for the sub 12ft.lb air rifle and the forms for the application (drawn up by Police Scotland) are more numerous and more demanding than the Home Office forms for a rifle! Your referees (2 required) are also required to sign the forms personally which is not a requirement for a Home Office FAC. If you already have FAC and shotgun licence, that doesn't matter, you'll still have to jump through all the hoops for the air weapons licence. Further than that I could not possibly comment!

I have a .25 FAC-rated PCP airgun, useful to 80-90 yards without much bother, but as others have said, crazy money compared to a 40+ year old .22LR that will pretty much do the same thing if you get a good one - for a tenth or less of the price!

I also often carry a 1930s Webley air pistol that fits nice in a pocket and is useful for knocking off trapped squirrels etc. which I was kindly given by a chap I work for when his dad passed away a few years ago.

If you’ve no convictions it’s not hard to get a fac tho

Only one referee (they call it verification) required for an air weapon in Scotland and the forms are nowhere near as intrusive or detailed as those for Firearms/ Shotgun (no medical review, just a self declaration).

That said, I'm thinking I'll give up mine when my FAC/SGC come for renewal and certainly would do so if they don't continue the minimal (£5) fee for the add on to those.

A couple of months ago I took my 10 year old son to the local air rifle range with my what I thought was reasonably modern under lever air rifle it’s got a scope and everything all the old boys gathered round to look at it as they hadn’t seen one for years. Some of the things the others were shooting was something else all powered from gas canisters and with great big sights range finders the lot
price of old underlevers is going through the roof trying to get hold of a hw77 or tx200 do like a nice underlever though

im trying to get hold of one at the moment biggest regret selling mine in the first place accurate powerful and fun and a classic trigger unit
