There won’t be as much straw needed either. A lot of pigs will be gone as will a lot of cattle.
and yet global research points out, that animals are a very important part, of soil improvement, that allows it to increase carbon sequestration.
There are to many half truths, and red herrings being traded, mainly by those that have vested interests, in the more 'carbon unfriendly' industries.
On pigs, l saw a 'big improvement' ln mkt report, and l really hope it is the start of a recovery, pig producers, desperately need it.

Any thoughts on the fodder trade over the next 2-3 years? I can't imagine that there will be anything other than less about next year with the fertiliser price where it is but what about following that? Come on, we all love some ill-informed speculation

fert simply makes things easier to achieve, a quick, cheap answer to high yields, and fairly reliable. Made life easier. Lot depends on price, and probably the days of cheap fert are over, don't think it will stay at these prices though.
So we will have to find alternative ways, to maintain yields, and to do that, we have to look back, at pre fert principles, and try and put a modern twist on them. But it will be back to 'proper' rotation, which was designed to maintain soil fertility. Fert will still be used, just a lot more judiciously ! Or, the price comes right back, or the price of ag product, rises to cover input costs. But better use of our own resources, has got to be right, either way.
