@ajd132 ^^^this is why your idea of joint venture plans with large arable farms will be treated with contempt by most. Without security of tenure, the livestock farmer is completely at the whim of others.:(
And just to point out 90% of the land we farm is owned by other people so I could very easily find myself in a similar situation. Part of my job is to fulfill land owners ambitions which is increasingly a blend of farming and environment. Thankfully with the way we have been farming we are ahead of the game and ticking all the boxes.

It wasn’t my idea. Farm clusters are an example of collaboration when it comes to this sort of thing that are popping up all over the country. I have merely been to a couple of meetings with one proposed in our area.

Neilo I think is not referring to the issue of LNR and cluster groups but a post you made a few days ago about integrating livestcok into a regen ag arable system. You said, if I recall, liked idea of having grazing livestock but didn't want to be yours. Here we see a grazier turfed off his gazing land. That is the point. Need security of tenure of some sort to run a flock. would you be able to give taht??

Oh I see sorry. Forgot about that one. I could give security of tenure as long as my tenures basically. Hence the world most of us are now farming in which is sadly short term although most of ours have been going for a long time now.

Sign the petition @warksfarmer has started to to this changed

Yes, everyone should sign that. But it is just about getting the LR element of ELMS binned.

This whole loss of productive land to trees is being driven by a bigger issue. The growing belief that trees are better in terms of GHG than farmland. A belief that is being driven forward by both the NFU and AHDB. That is where we need urgent change; for our national bodies to do a 180 degree turn and openly call it out as the crock of sh1t that it is.

edit: and at an individual farmer level, it is being driven by anyone who evangelizes about carbon credits. Shame on you.

the thing is this once its built on its gone? the amount that has been built on here in essex and about to be built on? structure plans for the next 15 years to find sites to build on is truely frightening? simple question who are this houses being built for?
Well apparently migration increases the population by around 360000/ year. The size of an average city.

@yellowbelly I know how near you are! All our training and life at Riseholme had put us in good stead over the years. I get told by my middle brother, Richard that I am a part time farmer!!.
But daughter does not keep well so I have to set things up for her. Things are just not clear moving forward. Our organisations are not helpful either. I am a long time supporter of the NFU as you know yellowbelly, as I worked for them many years ago. It was so different then. All I think we can hope for is that they realise they want food. May be Mr Putin will help with that. A long time advocate of Native breeds I also dispare At our local cattle society!.

It’ll all be back in production shortly, we will look back and laugh at it in a few years time when the demand for food increases and we will be getting grants for draining and growing crops

We won’t. As I’ve been saying for years but everybody thinks I’m mad, this country only wants organic food production and the rest will be traded for carbon credits to import majority of our food. It started under bLIAR and has continued with every government since.

Our ONLY saviour in my view is Rory Stewart but I suspect his ship has already sailed as his peers wouldn’t vote him into the conservative leadership. Instead they’ll continue down the left wing route when Boris is gone.

What’s the left wing route?

There's a quotation.....

"Cometh the hour, cometh the man."

Well, the hour is here but I sadly can't see where the man (or the woman, I suppose, in these modern times) is going to come from. 🙁

That might be your opinion and that of most but not all farmers. The view among the rest of society from what I hear is rather different, even if the public don't understand or value their food.

Most likely will have to sell the flock. Lost another 500 acre block end of last week because the rich London property developer owners have two dogs which bite people and attack sheep and horses and they don’t want the stress of worrying so the whole 500 acre farm is now just a place to walk to stroker dogs.

Makes me wonder why i bother. Hard work and being good at what you do means nowt these days.
So sorry to hear all this mate. You did say at Groundswell last summer you thought it was coming.

How's your wife holding up about it all?
