It seems they come out of the wood in the morning (just as it gets light) then have a feed, then bu**er off for the rest of the day till dusk, then come back in for another feed before bedtime. How i stop this,I dont know??? Where do they go mid-day ??Thanks for all the replies folks. I too am involved in the CSFB larvae trial. I've never seen larvae in the stems before until this spring, when it was REALLY bad. There was both CSFB and winter stem weevil larvae present. What i did notice was ........ where the pigeons were bad ,so were the larvae. And the opposite was true ie where the larvae was bad the pigeons came in later as well. (if that makes sense)
Like you guys i think its important to keep them off early on.
I think mine do the same. Pub? Bingo? Seaside? Who knows? It seems they come out of the wood in the morning (just as it gets light) then have a feed, then bu**er off for the rest of the day till dusk, then come back in for another feed before bedtime. This one turns the gas off for a mechanical one. Wouldn't be too hard to swap gas valve for a switch. A cam hits it. This one is in bits waiting for me to get round to fitting the new clock mechanism.Anyone know if you can get a 12volt timer for a banger just to put in supply cable
Yes, this would be normal for pigeons, they just go to roost and digest their breakfast. I’ve seen them clear off around 12 and start back at about 3pm. A shooting friend had told me about it and I observed this exactly the other day.It seems they come out of the wood in the morning (just as it gets light) then have a feed, then bu**er off for the rest of the day till dusk, then come back in for another feed before bedtime. Bangers, scarecrows, kites and rockets. Whatever, including shooting themYes, what do most people use to scare them, got 5 bangers going
yes theyll only grace you with their prescence if they can bag 200 in a day. id rather they didnt see one.Banger ropes thrown up into their favourite trees during the dawn hours before they arrive seems reasonably effective here. Combine with hanging ropes off scarecrows and the occasional rocket attack. (Also keeps dog walkers on their toes).
plus sporadic attendance from various “really keen” amateur field sports enthusiasts, but only as long as it’s not too windy, wet, sunny, cold, hot, foggy…….etc etc.
You didn’t see my earlier post saying I sat all day Sunday for seven? I get annoyed cos I’ll do that all winter and the farmer will let some fair weather shooter on the stubbles to ‘bag up’yes theyll only grace you with their prescence if they can bag 200 in a day. id rather they didnt see one.
Had one, Sent ours back as wasn't any better than £10 lasers off ebay.Anyone used one of the Portek Laser torches? Adverts show them moving geese - do they work on pigeons?
it won't work on pigeons as they don't have a distress call like other birdsWe tried a Martin Lishman distress caller. It didn't work. It does shift rooks etc though.
