Far enough. Though if your prepared to sort them as they begin to calf is surprising how small a shed you actually need.
Would have a small amount of space until cows start calving, as that space turns in to calf pens, works well, with the use of jackets for calves and good colostrum protocol, just will go wrong with snow😱, day is OK and more and I don't sleep much🙈

@Fergieman how did your culls do?
I presume they went deadweight?

better than our 8th calver, serious hard calving - bb, rather poor, pushing out 30 l, then bad mastitus £167, don't expect she owed us much. 3 hard calvings to BB, 3 screws out, bugger the BB's

Is that because you are retailing milk direct to the consumer?
No, as @som farmer said they've restarted routine spot checks! Haven't seen one for years, he said we are on the 10 year rota. The last one that came was a bit if git but this chap was fine, got a bit of dusting to do .....

The FHI which he was do from the cow to the tank, local authority environmental health do from the tank to the customer if you retail.

How are you getting with your plans?

We used BB for the first time last AI season and they have all calved now. I was nervous about difficult calvings (on Holsteins). Not a single problem, had more with the Sims in the past. We made sure we chose an easy calving one but it went better than I had dared hope. It's all in the bull not the breed.

I was told it was 10 year inspections, unless you have an ab failure.
Selling raw so see the DHI every 6 months, but he's a decent bloke and I get on well with him. Soon pulls me up if somethings not quite right mind.
