Right! How are people getting on with the Jcb 4220 Lots of the problems sorted out? Both run the same gear box. Is the many out there doing mixed work on a day to day basic. Umbilical trailers loader work putting stuff on and off all day. Sumo plough drill ect. I have had a demo of Jcb a few time love it on the road but just something always hold me back. Run fendt at the min and it’s a lovely tractor the hitch the link arm which you can get tight the visibility and the lock. Would like to know how people are getting on. 2000hr a year and would take to 8000hr ish. Don’t just say we run a Jcb and it’s awesome would like the truth the good the bad and Ugly. Thanks

I've had a 4220 for nearly a year on a mixed farm it's done nearly 1500hrs it does everything.

Ploughing
Sumo trio
Round baleing 10k ish bales
Mowing tedding raking
Slurry muck spreading
Trailer work
And anything else in between.

I like it a lot it's done everything I asked of it so far .
But and I'm maybe being too critical I sometimes feel it's lacking wheel grip for example 5 furrow plough on fri it was sometimes up to 30 % slip in the worst bits of the field where I know my JD with power quad gearbox would just trundle through with no fuss and the autopower I would set the max engine revs low and it would do better but the fastrac just wants to rev as soon as it gets slightly tough going or steep resulting in slip .

Worst points for me are
Fendt gearbox in high range it will get to the point it will just stop driving pilling up steep hills with a trailer on and is especially bad at doing it in reverse.
Lift controls.
Climate control.
Leather seat.
Not enough range of movement on steering wheel I'm reasonably tall 6ft and can't get it far enough away from me when I turn the seat right round I'm pinned right up against it .
Front window wiper it doesn't clear where you're looking through . And has so little pressure on the end of the blade that it's scratched a bit in a semi circle at the top of the window as it's not been clearing it properly and it's fine further down each side of the stroke.
Drawbar is too bulky under the hook and I need to carry a block to drop some trailers on now .
I'm having trouble with the wheel rims slipping inside the tyres

Good points
4 wheel steer
Comfort the suspension is excellent ploughing the first or last run on the headland is a breeze now.
Seems fairly powerful engine but the gearbox is holding it back .

I'll have it for another 2 yrs at least it's warranty is till 5k hours we were intending on keeping it to pull the combi drill with and sell on and older tractor but I can't see that happening now as to be honest it just wouldn't do what our current drilling tractor will but it'll have a good 70hp advantage on it due to being re mapped. I don't think it will be sold tho as there's something very likeable about it but I think I'll be back to a standard tractor for cultivation work in the future but I might be wrong.

Does anyone know when new models are coming out?

I was told agco are going to stop supplying jcb with engines and transmissions.

Just hope jcb don't try and develop there own.🤦‍♂️. Was told there trialling them with fpt engines, can't remember who's gearbox.

March for cab changes I'm hearing.

A year ago there was nowt in it compared to a 215 JD
I’ve had a price for a new 6185r deere and a price for a 720 fendt and the fendt is cheeper. I’m not a fendt driver and I’m not that familiar with speck but the fendt os a power plus and has basic gps. Deere was steer ready but no receiver.

We had a rough price on a 724 but after hating it on demo it never went any further but it was in the same region I think it was a profi from memory but wasn't really interested so can't remember the spec

KB6930 has hit the nail on the head. 4220 has fantastic suspension and will eat up all the bumps you can throw at it effortlessly. 4ws makes reversing trailers a doddle. Engine has piles of torque and seems great on pto work in eco with big implements. The biggest downside is pulling power on haulage work. I think the 724 will beat it up a hill and the reason I suspect for this is that the fastback is higher geared. With the fendt vario, as speed drops the level of hydraulic input increases exponentially. This is shown on the screen in the 4220 as mechanical input on a blue scale?? If a 4220 and a 724 are both climbing at 10k heavily loaded, the fastrac being geared higher has a natural disadvantage in that it will be running slightly more hydrostatic input than the fendt. The nature of these gearboxes is basically self defeating.. the slower they get, the more inefficient they become. 42 is great on the baler and mower but never going to be a natural loader tractor like the 724. In terms of reliability, a few sensors and daft little things but one rear diff in 3000 hours. Not a disaster but not perfect. Hard ploughing uphill, little wheels can't compete with conventional tractor for grip.
Why on earth does it not have a hook that keeps pushing out until you can see it..??!!

I've never really given it any hard PTO work yet I'll maybe have to try it in the drill I may be surprised!! It's not up to much balein on a hill at any speed compared to a JD of less hp but at slower speeds it does seem to have plenty.

I'm on Michelin vf 600 tyres and I've had demo ones on bkt and trelleborg before and I've been more impressed with them for grip but again I'm just wondering of I'm now being more critical now I've actually got the tractor

Whats steer ready even mean these days? Most new tractors are steer ready are they not?

I’ve no experience with a fastrac other than a demo I think one would suit us very well but it’s the little wheels on the back that puts me off especially as we are direct drilling with a heavy mounted drill

You can still order a Deere that doesn’t have the steering valves fitted. They’ve gone back to you being able to spec the tractor with exactly what you want.

The 4220 has the old fendt gearbox not the same one a 720/722 & 724 it is a 718 box in a 4220, big software difference from fendt to jcb as well
I was told this also agco don't allow the transmission in the fastrac to to run at same pressure as it does in a Fendt. Which makes fastrac not as good.

Apparently the pressure can be altered and it makes a difference to the fastrac.

We are getting a 722 demo early February if we have work for it. Be interesting to try it.

Need to compare it with the equivalent Deere and Valtra I would think?

Fine, if you don't like Fendt- they aren't for everyone but worth looking at some of the competition, surely.

I don't understand the fascination with 'gotta go uphill fastest' with CVT machines. Relax, rest your ears, relax your fuel consumption and let a computer sort it out.

We were like you thought about a fastrac to do all them job , but wheel grip in poor conditions spreading slurry let it down a lot, cab & its set out is a long way behind the fendt so was the gearbox, big down side was the second hand value of the fastrac & the warranty & reliability , this was 3 years ago or so they make have got better but I think we did the right thing buying a 724 not a 4220
