Moved the ewes into the new to them sheep shed. Shed used to store barley, straw and a few sheep and cattle but we’ve added a new lean to onto one side and turned it all into a sheep shed. Should make lambing time easier and more enjoyable than lambing in 3 different sheds. Still bits to do until it’s finished

Tractor got a bit covered in dust last week at the straw grinding so time for a clean

Mum was a Lakeland x Jack Russel, dad was a Border terrier. The second time I’ve had that mix of dog. A brilliant ratter and lovely dog to have around. Very much a terrier though, knows his own mind.

The good lady did a grand job getting staff organised this morning. 500kg of leeks done in 2 hours
Do you pay them piece work? Roughly how much pocket money will they get for their Sunday morning?

We pay hourly for ease. The rate varies according to age. 16 year olds start on £6 per hour, adults on £10. One 16 year old was put up to £7 today as she was working so well whereas two lads of the same age were dropped to £5 and told it would go up when they’re more productive. We’re flexible on start and finish times and try to look after them as much as possible.
Would a leek harvester be more cost effective, and quicker, or is this just a small sideline?

I’d like to try one if I could find one, but all these go to Riverford and have to meet strict criteria which would be difficult to achieve unless done by hand.
