That’s the modern world. We have a tractor, truck and car on finance. Just know how much (£1050) you are going to pay a month and the trade in pays for the deposit.
I’m remaining old fashioned , nothing on finance but I do have old things , but I also have developed skills at keeping them going, I might change when I get older but at the moment I avoid the Morden ways I feel for my hill farm they are dangerous territory .

The latest Isuzu we have has loads of rust after 3 years, the earlier ones were much better.
They are a disposable motor, you run them for 5 years until the mechanical warranty runs out and scrap them.
Land Rover just keeps on increasing in value if you keep them maintained.

The irony of Land Rover has been that the last ones made have been probably the best ever made!!
Anyone properly tested the new Defender? Not heard any reports from someone who uses them off road!
And the new isuzu are dearer than ever

Sadly your hand will be forced when you have to replace at some point. Ten year old machinery now is unrepairable without a laptop on the whole and the potential repair bills can be over half the machines value. I know of a guy who sent a £35,000tractor for repair, got a £22,000 bill, couldn’t afford to pay it, no money up front no tractor back, the only way to leave the dealership with a machine was to trade it in as a deposit against a new one on finance. I am convinced this has been the long term plan by manufacturers, it’s horrendous.

I’ve been updating the last few years after Dad was stuck in the 80’s and wasn’t sure if I was coming back he plodded on with an old tractor a quad and nothing else.
In a few years I’ve got 2 quads under 2 years (just), a buggy, a pickup which he didn’t have before, a sheep trailer with decks which he didn’t have before, rappa handling system, old manitou (no loader before) a post knocker, tined Harrow, disc mower and this year I bought a secondhand tractor for £35k while the old was worth £3.5k as a trade in, this was all in the last 5 years.

Only thing we put on finance was 1/2 of the buggy for 12 months as we need something on finance to get a credit rating.

Maybe your Dad was ahead of the game? You will have been ramping up your fixed costs, but at least you’ll be ready to dog & stick it in comfort next time we all have to.

They are a bit expensive now to be a disposable motor at £25,000 +
